    Disappointing

I have been here a few times and to say this place has gone down is an understatement. While Supper used to be one of my favorites, I don't know if I will be going back. I have always tolerated the apathy of the server believing that the quality and portion size of the food made up for it. However....this time the food was below average and the portions half the size. Another disappointment - the unique atmosphere and chill crowd which used to be a major draw, has been replaced with girls celebrating their birthday at the communal table with balloons screeching so loud you can't here yourself think. Hopefully, Supper will do some soul searching and get back on track. I just wonder how many clients they will lose until then.

    Delicious and inventive

I've been here four times for the new lunch menu and have only been able to order one thing so far, because it is so AWESOME. Grilled polenta with poached eggs, shaved provolone and prosciutto. There's some kind of vinegary fennel in there too (and my only quibble would be i could do with a bit less fennel) but, oh my god, the flavors work together in such an unbelieveable way. Its the perfect brunch and satisfies all day long. Before you get your food they serve the table delicious fresh crusty rustic bread and white beans in olive oil and red pepper flakes. Too good. I'm hoping to get over the polenta dish so i can try some others. I have also only been there during weekdays (around 2-3pm) and it has been pretty empty. The smells from the kitchen prepping the dinner food are super tantalizing, and i'm looking forward to also eating there for dinner. The weekly specials are on a big blackboard above the kitchen and also look mighty fine and creative. As a final stroke, the ambience is charming -- old-fashioned black-framed windows with stained glass panels, big, rustic, thick wood communal tables in front (along with a kitchen bar and one tiny two person table), the vintage chandeliers and warm candelight provide a flattering glow; there are more tables in the back with a similarly warm atmosphere and rich decor. I think the owner of Frank also runs this place. I almost hesitate to let everyone know how great it is, because i'm tempted to keep it for myself. Maybe i'll go back tomorrow!

One of the best in NYC

Food is consistently awesome. Pastas are fresh and delicious. Get the bread salad. Service is always fine. Some staff better than others. I bring everyone that visits from out of town here. They get the east village vibe and incredible food. No one is ever dissastisfied.

    Very good but...

just don't get the veal. Absolutely not good. Everything else is great. I never had a problem with the service. I think some people are awfully picky about their waiters. Everybody has always been very nice to me there.

    Poor service

While the food is good, the place has poor, rude service. The manager told us that although we had nine people of our ten person party we could not sit...ok...no problem, I understand policy. I can live with that. But then he actually lectured me on why it was rude of me to request that we be seated and droned on about how I should not even have asked. New tip...get a new staff because the waiters, although not rude, were not good servers. Too bad, the food is solid.

    "A Must!"

I had been to Frank several times before, but decided it was worth checking out Supper as well. What a pleasant surprise!! While Frank is a great place to go for affordable good food, my meal at Supper was way more than good. I've had a lot of meals recently at much fancier restaurants at more than twice the price that didn't even come close to impressing me like this meal did. I definitely recommend eating here and I know that I'll be back often!

    Not the best...

We were so excited to go here bc it came highly recommended both by this site and by time out, but the meal was disappointing. the salmone marinato was so salty (and without any other flavor). the tagliatelle alla bolognese was ok... i make a better one myself though, and i'm not an incredibly accomplished chef. the simple platter of vegetables was also ok, but should have had more flavor (garlic, probably). the service was not bad at all, and the ambiance of sitting outside was lovely.
