Not bad, but there are better places.
The "exposed kitchen" is kinda cool, but you prob'ly won't get a table near it, so take a good luck when you come and leave. And bring lots of cash. They don't take credit cards, which is fine, but they also don't tell you how much things cost on the menu. I can see one trait *or* the other, but both is just inconvenient. My pasta was really not exciting, although the others I was with got the gnocchi, and that was quite good.

Overrated
I don't know what anyone sees in this little place. First, when we got there, except for one couple, we were the only one there but the service was very shoddy anyway. The bread is OK, but the food overall isn't very good. They have an open kitchen, bu t they didn't even hide the fact that the dried Ronzoni was waiting in the open to be put in the boil. Atmosphere? Well, it IS dark in there. candles lighting most faces, and a couple of old school mis-matched chandeliers doing the rest of the work. Pretty typical exposed brick, and block tables. Nothing too fancy. I don't recommend you waste your money on this place. Even the wine is weak.

Love this restaurant!
Loved the food and the atmosphere at this place! Only bad thing is that the restaurant is cash only

Best Italian Food
This is by far the best Italian food I've had in NYC, and with a great wine selection and reasonable prices, definitely I will be back. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, as well as the wait staff.

Good food but so loud bring ur bullhorn
My bf had been here once before and liked it, so we decided to try it 2 nights ago for dinner. The hostess was friendly, offered us a table downstairs right away - after managing that steep, scary staircase in my heels, she turned around and said "whoops - looks like someone gave that table away." She was nice about it and I was glad I wasn't going to have to navigate up those stairs after a glass or two of wine! We were seated quickly in the dining area in back, and service was both friendly and fast. However, the place was soooo loud that we had to lean in and shout across the 5 inches of table between us - far from relaxing or romantic. I had the best glass of Montepulciano suggested by our waiter who seemed quite knowledgeable. The food was tasty and fresh and came out in good time on quaint chipped dishes. However, the noise was such that I found it very hard to enjoy my meal, and I had a headache by the end of dinner. I did note that the noise died down by the time we ended dinner, so perhaps it would have been better if we'd come after the dinner rush. There are so many other good restos in the city however that I won't be returning to this one and risking another experience like this.

I love this place
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It's got a great atmosphere: very "village." The food is great and the value is absolutely fantstic. I highly recommend it. The only downside is the difficulty getting in, but that's just because everyone knows how great it is!

Good food, cute atmosphere, subpar service
Buffala mozzarella is out of this world. Had the rabbit special, pretty good. The service was not good at all Not to be mean, but the wait staff looked like slobs (old nasty rugby shirt), and they brought out the food at sporadic times, one person was finished while another receives the wrong order, LATE, then they bring out the wrong order again. Since we were a party of 8 the tip was added for us...a sham b/c we would not have tipped well b./c the service was lousy. I I was so not impressed.
