Best Thursday Nights!
I've only been to the restaurant a few times because there is a always a wait, but I order in every Thursday. On Thursdays they have a breaded chicken special - it is the BEST I've ever had. It may be overpriced, but it's worth it. Don't knock it til you try it!

Subpar Italian
I went to Supper a few times about 8 years ago and it was delicious- great food and service, nice atmosphere and inexpensive. After a 7-year hiatus I went there last night with a big group and was very dissappointed. The hostess was unfriendly and condescending, the service was subpar and rushed and the food was unappetizing. I had a special, the pappardelle with mushrooms - the pasta was overcooked and the sauce was skimpy and tasteless, probably canned mushrooms. The specials menu doesn't have prices which is very annoying and sketchy. The fennel and montasio cheese salad was flavorless and dry, no dressing or spices. Pretty much all of the bottles on the wine list were $150-400, which is ridiculous for this type of restaurant. The food prices are ok, but still overpriced for the quality and poor service. The waiters were practically shouting at us the whole time and just plain rude.

Perfect NY experience
After a successful reading by a friend at KGB bar our party walked over to Supper. Yes, the host was rude, but what a fabulous end to a great night. They gave us the back room with it's private(almost) bathroom...what atmosphere. The wine, the food and our waiter were great....we even lingered well after finishing our meal and no-one rushed us out. I know about atmosphere and the importance of the "total experience". Supper gave it too us..in spades...Thanks!!

pretentious mess, never going back
This restaurant was recommended by a friend who lived in the Lower East Side. I booked a space a week in advance to hold my birthday dinner, which was last night, my reasoning being that I was happy to support a family-owned restaurant. Had I known the service was going to be a pretentious mess, I certainly would not have. The host that worked last night was by far the most wretched man I have ever come across in the food industry. He managed to upset almost all of the people in the party by snobbishly emphasizing over and over to us that he absolutely CANNOT seat us until we were all here, that everyone has to wait in the crammed bar next door although the table downstairs was already set up, that I am not ENTITLED to have a ‘private room’ because we only had 15 and not 18 (what was the reasoning behind forcing me to understand, being passive aggressive would’ve been just fine, I only wanted a table to eat on), proceeded to sit a random party of four at the end of our table-at the inconvenience of my friend who is on crutches and needed the extra space, blatantly ignoring her request. Everyone wanted to order bottles of wine yet we only received one wine list. The waiter was impatient with us when we were trying to figure out what wine to order, and I had to inform him that the other end of the table needed a list. In the waiter’s defense, he wasn’t as bad as the host, the whole night seemed to be cursed because of the host’s rude behavior, putting most of us in a mood where we just wanted to all leave and go to one of the many other restaurants in the Lower East Side. When our food came, it was fine, but couldn’t seem to find a waiter after it was delivered to get another bottle of wine or some grated cheese. When our dessert came he proceeded to just dump a bunch of forks and one random spoon in the middle of the table. We certainly were not a difficult crowd to please, just wanted to eat, drink wine, pay, leave, and instead we were insulted. It was just so embarrassing. Everyone in the restaurant seemed more than happy to make us feel like a big inconvenience. It concerns me that this behavior is permitted in this restaurant. The bottom line is that good service in a restaurant is a universal component to customer satisfaction and loyalty. Having worked many years in the restaurant industry, I understand what it takes to be a good host and a good waitress, and it starts with kindness.

Great food!
Based on the negative reviews here (and elsewhere) I went expecting to be disappointed, but was not! Yes, the place is extremely loud, yes, they only accept cash (and don't tell you the price of all the menu items, so annoying), and yes, we had to wait a while to be seated, BUT I went with a group of six and everyone was very happy with their dish. And doesn't it all come down to the food in the end? I had the butternut squash ravioli in butter sauce (one of the specials that was around $13, I had to ask the waiter for prices) and my husband had roast chicken with mashed potatoes (on the menu $18 I think) and we were thrilled. The service was good, not great, but I will say that the waiter didn't bat an eye when I asked for prices nor did he scoff that some of us just had water to drink. The table we sat at was weirdly shaped -- kind of like a piano, which made it awkward. But, like I said, for me, it all comes down to the food, and the food was good. I wouldn't go here on a romantic date though because you will end up yelling at each other just to be heard.

Never Going Back
This was -- hands down -- one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've had in New York. The food was sub-par (gummy pasta, bland sauces, very uninspired dishes), and for the price we paid per dish, I was very disappointed. The restaurant itself was incredibly noisy and on top of that, one of the busboys dropped a glass of wine on my friend, and the most they did to apologize was offer to pick up the dry-cleaning bill. Totally unacceptable, all around. One of the girls with us had been to this place several times before, but she's agreed -- we're never going back!

won't be going back any time soon
went here to celebrate a friend's birthday recently. hostess was rude, and even though they had threatened that we would lose our table if we did not show up exactly on time for our reservation, made us wait half an hour before we were seated. seemed we had to serve ourselves for the most part, searching around us for salt/pepper/cheese, etc. majority of the table was disappointed with their food, and felt the prices were much too high for the small portions they received. to top it off, we were overcharged by about $60. when i brought this to the waiters attention, he rushed off to fix it without even letting me explain the mistakes. made it seem like he had hiked up the price on purpose. lucky for him the gratuity was included since we were a big party. total let down.
