Favorite Japanese place
Offers a wide range of unusual (for here) and interesting Japanese foods including a changing array of specials. Friendly, fast service. I am so glad that this place is in my neighborhood and wish only that it would open for lunch, even with a more limited menu. The gingkos on skewers, the butta cabbage, the short ribs: wow!

Delicious Osaka Style Japanese Food
After reading some of the reviews I had to comment on my consistent experience with Sun-Chan. No, the service is not fast, but they are not boasting to be a fast food restaurant. If you want decor, go to Nobu. This is a home style, comfy place populated with locals and students. The food is always fresh, of excellent quality and they have regional dishes I haven't had since I visited Japan in 2007. A definite stand out that is rare to find in the US is the grilled Pacific Saury - or Sanma as the Japanese call it. It's in the mackerel family and is just out of this world! The waitstaff are always polite and they are really accommodating. Another plus - they always have jazz music playing in the background. This half Japanese girl will always find home at Sun-Chan. Domo-arigato!

slow service & overcharge my credit card
The tip is supposed to be $5 something (15% as suggested on the bill). Although their service is so slow, I still tipped $6 for goodness. However, when I check my online credit card statement, I found they charged me over $7. So be careful!

Good food, regional specialties, slow service, bare bones decor
In it's current incarnation, Sun-Chan is an authentic Japanese Nagoya regional specialty restaurant. The staff is only a little bilingual so you need to do your research to order well. Sushi is not the way to go here...robata, yakitorri, the octopus balls, grilled fish collar and eel specialities are very good. It is expensive, but so is most good Japanese food. The uncomfortable chairs and wobbly tables could be changed, but they are crowded so I don't think they will try to pretty anything up here. The service is disorganized, but the food is authentic and rare in the neighborhood.

Left feeling extremely unhappy and unsatisfied
A poorly coordinated service - politely disguised – the Japanese way. My group spent almost 2 hours petitioning to get food out of the kitchen! The wait staff put on the apologetic show and managed to get some of the orders out to keep us from leaving. When we were done, my group was not impressed with the over-rated food or the drinks. It was an unpleasant dining experience. You’ll leave the place unhappy smelling like the skewers grill. I don’t think it’s worth the over-rated food and the drinks. So many “I’m sorry” can’t mask the fact that it’s not a well run place.

Get "Nagoya Chicken Wings"!!
I keep going back to the Sun Chan restaurant for years and I've brought many friends of mine, everyone likes it!! The food is awesome, especially fried chicken wings with sesame and pepper and sweet sauce on the top, also broiled yellow tail collar dish. The service is great too, seems like they care about customers a lot. Don't try to get attention at your first time. They will know you if you would often come back.

come get" skewered" at sun chan
sun chan has top notch authentic japanese cuisine. some of their specialties include yakitori treats: chicken, liver, chicken skin, pork belly, chicken meat ball, garlic cloves and more. sun chan also makes their own gyoza, which is well worth the price. i also enjoy the rolls, especially shrimp tempura and unagi with avocado! do not be deterred by the exterior or interior for that matter - it leave little to be desired but the quality of the food and service makes up for it!
