    Pretty Good

I tried Ooey Gooey (chocolate), Bob (yellow cake with chocolate frosting), and Sunshine (vanilla) cupcakes. The Sunshine was definitely the best. Ooey Gooey was fairly good but I didn't really like Bob- the yellow cake reminded me of cornbread. I love this place though; it's much more friendly than Magnolia where it feels like they're just trying to rush you out the door. I'll definitely go back.

The war of the nyc cupcakes is over

Sugar sweet sunshine is the winner. i went last night and they were better than i could have ever hoped for, the best i've ever had. what makes them so good, is unlike so many others, the have FLAVOR, instead of just tasting sweet. I had one of those not-so-proud moments and scarfed four with my bare hands, while everyone else in there ate 1 with a fork. Anyway, hands down the best one is the lemon, which is perfectly tart and delicious (but don't try it unless you really like lemony things), and I had to order another one. The pumpkin is reaaally good too, and the ooey gooey is yummy and chocolately and messy. My boyfriend liked the red velvet, and he also tried a mini cheesecake, which he said was good. The only low point of the trip was this pudding he bought, which was a HUGE portion, and we each had a few bites and just didn't want anymore, each bite tasted bland and exactly the same. Bottom line - go for cupcakes. And get a lemon one.

    Best Cupcakes

So, while everyone raves about Magnolia cupcakes, they don't seem to realize that these are by far the best cupcakes (and cakes) hands down!! Since moving out of the LES, I still frequent the area for these delicious treats! yum yum! I suggest the Sexy Red Velvet!

    Best cupcakes in town

Being a baker myself, I have often been disappointed by the overrated bakeries around town that everyone raves about (Magnolia, etc.) But this is one shop that deserves its praise. Although their offerrings are nothing particularly fancy to look at, they are superior in taste and also in flavor selection.

    A let-down

I had read all the reviews and could not wait to sink my teeth into one of these heavenly sweets. Yes the cake of the cupcakes was fantastic but the frosting was nothing compared to that of Magnolia. What a let down. Am sure it's fine as a local cupcake joint but to shlep downtown for them, no way. I'd rather head west.

    Perfect cupcakes!

There's nothing to dislike about these tasty cupcakes! They're not too big or too small, with the perfect amount of frosting (which isn't too sweet) and a perfectly moist cake. I'm sick of oversized dry cupcakes with too much tasteless and disgustingly sweet frosting. Give me Sugar Sweet Sunshine or give me death!

    The Best Cupcakes in NYC

I'm a huge cupcake fanatic. And I've tried many of the most popular cupcake places in NYC. But the very best cupcakes come from Sugar Sweet Sunshine. These are actually the best cupcakes I've had..ever. From anywhere. I live in the East Village and frequently take a walk to the Lower East Side to Sugar for a delicious treat at the end of a long day. I tell myself each time that I can only allow myself to get two cupcakes...but always end up with a half dozen or more to go home with. The flavors are delicious, the cake is always soft and moist, like it has just been taken out of the oven. And the frosting has the perfect taste..not too sugary sweet, but perfectly lip-licking tasty. My favorites are the red velvet cupcake, aka "Sexy". I also love love love the pumpkin. Like fresh pumpkin pie in a cupcake. And even though I am not a fan of anything lemon flavored, I have to say that the lemon cupcakes are quite yummy. And let's not forget about "Bob", the standby yellow cake with chocolate frosting. I never leave without a "Bob." The people are super laid back and friendly..and happy to tell you their own personal favorites. You can grab a coffee and sit down and eat your cupcake and sip your joe in one of the funky mismatched chairs at the front of the shop. Or sit on the bench outside and watch all the comings and goings on Rivington St. I almost didn't write this review..because I like that Sugar isn't too crowded..and it still has a cool, LES vibe. But I felt that I owed it to all the other cupcake fanatics out there...You must try these cupcakes. You won't be disappointed.
