    try the stage

ive been to the stage deli 5 times in three years and everytime has been superb...yes the staff may not be the politiest in the world, but thats the way they are thats what adds to the atmosphere and ambience of the place, they are not rude they give you your food as soon as its ready and your never waiting for a fill up of coffee, tea or whatever your drinking...go to the stage deli its superb.

Go for the food not for the service

This was my 3rd visit to Stage. As always, the food was fabulous, but the wait staff is terribly rude. They are prompt but don't sit for even 1 minute after you've eaten or they make rude about you.. If you go to Stage you go for the food not for the ambiance because there is none.

    Excellent Food

This was my third time eating here and the food is outstanding, Yes, the wait staff is brisque but I find that typical of most NY restaurants. Not a place to sit over coffee and chat, they want you out when you are done eating! The food is definately worth the aggravation.

    Most unfriendly and rude staff

We were there once a couple of months ago. We were staying at the Sheraton near by. Big mistake! We should have walked one more block to Carnegie. I was not feeling weel so I only had the matzah ball soup which was good. We went back the next day with some local friends and the waiter was so rude, we picked up our things and left. And yes, it's NYC, but people seemed fine to us, except here. Best think people can do is stop going to this place and maybe if they feel the pinch, they will tell their staff to treat people decently. It's just food after all, and avarage.

Big Mistake, Carnigie's had a line outside, it was cold so we were dieing for a pastramie on rye and went to Stage's. GREASY GREASY GREASY,,,,, very fatty and GREASY! Wasn't like that at Carnnigie's a few weeks back... and is never like that at Katz's.

Great Food and Portions, Odd Contrasts

Most reviews of the Stage Deli are predictable; the sandwiches are huge, the food tasty, the available selection of Deli fare exemplary. These observations are all true. What I found odd was while I thought it was reasonable to charge only $3 to add Turkey to my Corned Beef sandwich, the Corned Beef was served palatably hot while the Turkey was refridgerator -cool. Many delis serve Turkey at least warm, if not room temp. The contrast in temperatures between the meats was unpleasant. If you want Matzo Ball soup, only a bowl at $8.95 is available. It's excellent and the Matzo Ball, while the largest I've ever seen, was tasty and well-prepared. If you want a cup of Matzo Ball soup as an adjunct to your meal, you're out of luck. Another oddity is that you can add cole slaw tand Russian to your sandwich for just a couple of bucks, if you want cole slaw on the side it's ala carte for the astounding price of $6.95 for a monkey dish-sized portion. I find that very expensive, perhaps it's my own perspective in light of many Deli's providing cole slow and pickles at no charge. In the end, I had a great dinner despite some of the surprises and a half sandwich to nosh on in my hotel room later that night!

    It's no Carnegi Deli

It was good but it's not quite what it should be. Instead of Russian dressing for my sandwich they gave me Kraft thousand Island. And the rye bread was not up to par - not very tasty. No self respecting jewish deli hands out packets of Kraft for their sandwichs - and at $14 it should be perfect.
