prices outrageous for mediocre food & service

we were stunned at the prices in this place: i mean, $15 for a SANDWICH? with nothing more than a pickle on the side? And $5..95 for fries? Get REAL!! We felt totally gipped. (The cheesecake LOOKs good, but taste is disappointing ... and t $11.95 / slice, it had better be the best. It's just NOT. A real tourist clip joint.

    Overpriced mediocre diner food.

Don't believe the hype. This place does not serve great food. Sure, the sandwiches are large, but Stage Deli sandwiches are overpriced. And the food is mediocre at best. The service is also poor to average.

Rude Service, and the Food's Not Even Good!

It was a long time ago that I was at Stage Deli (on a school trip), but the I ordered a burger, asked for it medium well. When it came it was completely bloody... no way was it even cooked medium. I told the waitress, she took it away in a huff. She came back with the burger completely soggy and the cheese and everything squashed... looked like it had been slapped around in a pan, or microwave One of the other people working there smirked and said "dead enough for you?" I couldn't believe it. I'm sure they knew we were tourists, and thought they could get away with it because they knew we wouldn't be back, but I would tell everyone I know to avoid Stage Deli!

    Too Expensive

Food is OK and our waitress was actually really nice but the place is just too expensive for what you get. Considering there is a similar place down the block with better food, and the fact that times are tight, there is really no reason to pay what these guys want for a sandwich or a burger.

    Grossed out

Won't go here ever again and will warn my friends to do the same. I went here with a co-worker for a quick bite and had a terrible, albeit laughable, experience. Pretty dirty atmosphere. We were aware of the high prices here, but shocked that the food did not hold up to its value at all. Possibly the dirtiest and most obnoxiously overpriced restaurant in the city I've been to in a long time.

    holy overpriced

From the outside, this looks like a standard NYC lower tier deli / diner. When we got in, could not believe the prices! Nearly $20 for a cheeseburger, or deli sandwich. Ok, fine, maybe the food is fantastic...not so. Mediocre at best. Burger was ok but the fries were soggy and probably were sitting out for some time. Service was nothing to write home about. Definitely way overpriced. Will never go here again.

    Disrespect at it's Finest

My wife and I have been patrons of this joint for the past 8 years, bringing friends and family to join in great food. I'm visiting the City on business this week and I brought my wife. My wife and I walked into Stage to buy some of our favorite desert. The waitress (older blonde) took our order. I am diabetic and can't have too many sweets, so my wife and I usually share a desert. The Manager said we didn't order enough and we have to order more food in order for them to service us. The manager made a BIG LOUD stink about it in front of other patrons and totally humiliated my wife and I. There is no minimum stated in their menu! They blamed it on the coffee we brought in from our favorite coffee shop. Bad Bad business. The manager said its like bringing a steak to a steak restaurant. Hardly the same. My firm, my friends, my family will no longer be visiting this hole. On top of our experience, the waitress (old blonde), had it out with some european people at the next table. They had a question about what beets were and she stated "beets are beets!" "If you can't understand me, then I can't help you." Very dissapointed.
