You get what you pay for
I dont understand why this restaurant is so highly rated, if you really understand food you would never rate this as a restaurant with good food. I wouldnt mind getting a drink here, but I would never eat here again. Its purely a tourist trap that has mediocre chain restaurant food quality.

Awesome
If you get there on a Thurs, Fri or Sat, make sure you get Mary Helen as a waitress. She'll make your visit truely enoyable. Utterly amazing hostess who knows her stuff. The restaurant is a real find in the maze of New York Restaurants on offer. This place gives you the choise of meat or fish - and then there's the drink - anything to satisfy your palet - go there! Quick!!! :-)

St. Andrews- my favorite place in NYC
I have never had a bad meal here. I love the staff who are always warm and friendly and the atmosphere is truly welcoming. I always feel like Norm at Cheers when I walk in. Favorites are the amazing ribs, salmon, (all of their fish is very fresh),the salads and yummy burgers. The sticky toffee pudding - a Scottish dessert is delicious. Over the past few years I've recommended St Andrews to many people and everyone comes back to thank me. The only thing that is disappointing is finding that a favorite bartender has gone back to Scotland. All in all just my favorite restaurant/bar in the city...and that is really saying something!

Too noisy
Good appetisers, average meat and seafood, extensive scotch and beer selection (some of the beers we wanted to try were not available, though...). Service was very good. However, place was too crowded and noisy for a quiet family dinner and conversation we planned to have.

Great restaurant
I think this is a great restaurant for any group of people. I actually had dinner here alone and the atmosphere was very comfortable and welcoming. The food was great and the wait-staff were quick and were able to recommend a very good wine to complement my meal. There is also a bar that extends almost the entire length of the restaurant which was kind of loud (because of Fleet Week), but the rest of the restaurant was mostly quiet. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a pretty casual place, although some people were dressed a little nicer.

Highly Recommed
I learned about this restaurant through New York Magazine. It was a nice find and I will start taking clients here in the future as the food is good and the atmosphere was comfortable and not too over done. I was with 2 other people and all of our dishes were gorgeous on the plate and each of us enjoyed our meals. The by glass wine selection was nice and the bar area is roomy if you get there early or looking to stay a while after dinner. Even the desserts were very kind to the taste buds. The staff was very friendly and helpful - low key atmosphere where even the table next to us made conversation. It was worth the prices, which for Manhattan I thought were typical.
