Decent beer selection, poor service
I lived in Europe for many years, and spent the majority of my spare time pursuing beer around the continent. I'd heard of Spuyten when I moved to NYC and couldn't wait to see what they had to offer. The answer: very little. Their bottle selection is the best you'll find for a good distance, but it's way over-priced. The drafts are the only reason I go - usually something interesting for a fair price. The staff, always unpleasant, and I don't know why. From my experience, they aren't very knowledgeable and they don't seem to care much. They definitely have an air of arrogance with everyone. The bar, as cramped as it gets. It's always such a struggle to get a seat. The back garden area is lovely in the summer though.

Inattentive bartenders
Both visits here I found myself saying, wow all this TALK about beer, I sure would like to DRINK one. After about 20 minutes at a relatively unbusy hour, the bartender finally sacrificed a moment of conversation with friends to apathetically pour me a beer. The cheese plate was pretty excellent.
