This has been one of my favorite restaurants in NYC for nearly 4 years. This quaint eatery has some of the freshest pasta you'll find and wonderful appetizers to go along with them. The mussels are my absolute favorite and I have to stop myself from drinking the broth straight from the bowl. Portion sizes aren't huge, but when you're eating fresh pasta, you don't need a gigantic bowl to fill up. Oh and their tiramisu is the best I've ever had. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive, but they let you take your time- very reminiscent of being in Italy. Perfect for date night or dinner with great friends.

I am a volunteer Destination Expert for NYC on TripAdvisor and I enjoy finding new restaurants and sharing my experiences with visitors to NYC. I wasn't really thinking about TripAdvisor last March when my partner and I decided we wanted to expand our repertoire of Italian restaurants. We were blown away with how much we enjoyed Spina. We continued to explore and didn't return to Spina until August at which time we had another amazing experience. We invited another couple to join us for dinner and they too were blown away with the quality, value, taste, freshness, pleasant atmosphere, and especially the top notch service. Knowing the city would be overrun with visitors during the winter holidays, I wrote a post on TripAdvisor mentioning Spina as a worthwhile place for visitors to check out - an off-the-beaten-path restaurant that won't be completely mobbed with other tourists. It was very gratifying to hear people went and had comparably excellent experiences. I look forward to returning for a fourth time. Great place. Excellent all around.

I had dinner at Spina with a couple of friends the other night, because the owner reached out to help a local organizaiton that we were all involved with called The Father's Heart. He invited us to his restaurant to talk about what he could do to support the organization because he was touched by the number of people lined up outside to receive a hot meal each Saturday morning. He fed us a ridiculous meal - awesome fresh pastas - paired with great wines. The meal was incredible. On top of that great meal, he is now donating $1 to Father's Heart for every customer that fills out a comment card. This restaurant not only serves delicious food of excellent quality, but the owners have sincere hearts for the community. What a refreshing thing to find in New York City and in the East Village! If you know anything about the restaurant business, $1 per card is an extremely generous gift! I'm looking forward to my next meal at Spina - which will be brunch tomorrow morning! These guys deserve a gold star.

I go out to eat a ton and am always looking for that good, authentic,non stuffy restaurant in the city which is hard to find these days. The atmosphere was warm, wait staff was super friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. I always think it was very reasonable. It was exactly what I was looking for and will definitely go back.

My BF and I went last night to celebrate our anniversary. I received a special offer from Village Vines and after checking out the menu we decided to give Spina a shot. Wow...we were not disappointed. Overall this was a wonderful dining experience. The service, food and staff were phenomenal! Everyone was attentive and the food was super fresh. We sampled each other's dishes and loved each bite; from the Scamorza and Tropicale appetizers to the succulent main course of gnocchi and cavatelli neri. The lump crabmeat of the cavatelli neri was sweet and tender. The absolute best part of the meal was the special for the evening which was a filleted Mediterranean Bass with a salt crust. Ok, so I know you heard salt and may cringe but trust me it was beyond words. Perfectly seasoned! It was paired with a cold orzo like (i don't recall exactly because I was in food heaven) pasta that was out of this world. The fish was even more tender than the crab meat and incredibly moist. While we did get a 30% discount on our bill as I am a member of Village Vines, I would gladly go back; discount or not. Fabulous food, great for a special occasion or no occasion at all.....Just go!

loved spina. went on a sunday - 50% off the wine list. a party of 5- all had different pastas - all were really tasty. the bolognese sauce was especially delicious. nice village vibe. wine list was excellent especially at half off. going back again tonite.
