    Too bad...

We tried Spigolo for the first time and were highly disappointed. We ordered the salmon tartare as a starter which would have been good aside from the plastic wrap found within. I also ordered a pasta for $14 to find that it was served "italian style" which basically translates to "tiny portion". This would have been fine if I had been notified ahead of time. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

    It's too bad

I read multiple reviews of this restaurant, all rating it very high. I've been here twice, and it just hasn't lived up to my expectations. On the positive side, the salads are amazing, but unfortunately, the pasta and main dishes are mediocre. I had a pasta that was drowned in sauce and a very bland steak dish. Overall, not worth the price, the long wait, and the average room.

    Great local UES italian

Smaller restaurant, friendly staff, very good italian food. Pasta dishes are decent sized and easy to share. Take the advice of friendly waiters/waitresses and go with the specials. I recommend the baked clams w/bagna cauda butter appetizer and lamb ragout pasta dish. Dessert was just average. Overall very good restaurant for a cozy, italian homecooked meal.

    Instant Neighborhood Favorite

The food here is terrific. The meats are always top notch and the pastas perfectly cooked. Dishes are far more creative than any other Italians on the Upper East Side. Save room for the desserts. Also, the hostess and bartenders couldn't be nicer. We are now regulars here -- eat at the bar if you can't get a reservation.

Average food but very nice atmosphere

This is a small restaurant but cozy. The food was not so impressive. The marinaded fish appetizer was too sweet, the salad was good, the pasta was very good but the lamb ragout in it was too salty, deserts were good but not too impressive. Wine was good. We had a good time but not the really good food. I will try again once just to make sure but not more.

    Great 1 Year Anniversary Celebration

At 4:30PM on our anniversary, my husband and I had still not chosen a restaurant to eat in. Having heard about Spigolo and wanting to try it, we called to see if they would have a reservation that night (we were doubtful). We were pleasantly suprised when the nice hostess informed us that there had just been a cancellation. We were even more pleasantly suprised when we got there at the service, food and overall friendly vibe. We ordered the tasting menu paired with wine. Each wine was better than the last and while a couple of the dishes could have used a little less salt, we could not have been more content. From the oysters, to the grilled shrimp with faro, to the gnocci (yes, it is that good), to the dessert, etc., everything was wonderful. They did not rush us, even when we were finishing up our dessert and no one else was left in the restaurant. The waitstaff could not be more friendly and accommodating. The only drawback to the restaurant is that it is tiny so it fills up fast and you do sit relatively close to neighboring tables. However, this should not deter anyone from trying this restaurant. Spigolo is just what the Upper East Side needs. We will definitely be back! They made our anniversay dinner a very memorable experience.

    You must try this place!

I went with a friend for diner during the week, and we had a fantastic meal. The portions are not American sized; however, they are reasonable. The sheepsmilk gnocchi was out of this world: Pillowy soft, rich in flavor, not a hint of gooey starch. As for my "lowly" cod, the chef had transformed it into an unexpected treat - perfectly textured with a crisp exterior and succulent, moist interior. As for the desserts, they were so good that the two of us shared three of them. Get the bomboloni. You'll be fighting for the last italian fritter. The space is small, and on a bustling weekend, I could easily see it being too cramped. On a weekday, however, I'd describe it as a cozy, refined neighborhood place. Definitely make an effort to try the food of this fantastic place.
