After a long gap - disappointment

Been to Spigolo a couple of times in the past (last year and year before) and were very happy each time. However, I've returned to the restaurant twice recently and both times, was very disappointed. Everything is too salty. I tried a la carte one time and ordered the tasting menu the second time. Both times the dishes were too salty. So disappointed as this was THE neighborhood place I took friends to when they were in town.

    After a long gap.....still excellent

Since we moved a little way from Spigolo we have not been for a while. On the off chance we called last night and thanks to the good weather, there were tables available. It was as if we had never been away. The cocktails were pretty good (something we had not had before but the wife didn't fancy wine). We shared a great asparagus appetizer. Perfectly cooked spears with the added texture of almonds and bite of pecorino. For mains, we had the trout, nicely cooked with mushrooms and the sweetest english peas. Also, pasta with a mushroom sauce. The mushrooms and peas examples of how seasonal ingredients always work best. When it came to the desserts, we were almost distraught to discover Heather had given up the kitchen for motherhood (and taken her delectable bombolini with her). No matter - Jen is an able replacement. Amazing apple fritters with zabaglioni the sweetness of which was offset by a slightly tart rhubarb and strawberry cobbler, equally delicious. Compared to the meals we had at top restaurants in Bermuda just a couple of weeks earlier, this was head and shoulders above, for less money. You will be hard pressed to find better in a neighborhood restaurant.

    loved it

Just went this weekend and have to say it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Service was perfect, food was delicious (and not too salty at all), and overall just a really great meal.

    Salt, salt and more salt

Spigolo came highly recommended by relatives who had last been there a year and a half ago and raved about the place. Much to our surprise this turned out to be one of the poorest meals we have ever had and we were there for less than 45 minutes. To their credit, they comped part of our meal but even so we left with a bad and (salty) taste in our mouth.

    Oui Vey

Never let people that don't know you pick your meals. We left not eating 4 out of 6 courses. The things we like were fabulous. I think they just need to keep it simple and the may be the best in the world! When we liked something there it was INCREDIBLE! I guess we just weren't used to the "gourmet" stuff... We do have to say, the drinks were fabulous and service was very nice.

    Not worth it

Not worth it at all. My bibb salad was completely wilted and way over dressed- maybe to mask the wiltedness?, the pasta dish was such a ridiculously small portion (5 tiny pieces of gnocchi) that the waitress asked if I wanted to order another one, and I was given a water glass w/ a chip in it that cut my lip. My husband's pasta brought al dente to whole new level that can only be described as chewy, stuck to your teeth pasta. All that plus it took forever for anything to come out. I was just grateful the busboy offered to bring us more olives to fill up on.

    Great spot!

I had heard good things about Spigolo. Some friends were in town visiting, and we stopped by for lunch. Food is excellent. The portions are smaller, but the flavor is big. Because the food is complex and flavorful, you leave satiated. Some of the combination are fairly odd, but it seems work. Would definitely dine here, again.
