The food is okay, certainly not amazing, but reasonable for the price. For dessert I'd recommend the chocolate souffle with green tea ice cream. The service is inconsistant at best. The atmosphere is lacking, if you enjoy feeling like you are in a loud crowded NYU cafeteria albeit one with a funky decor then you will like this. For those who prefer to be in a less juvenile environment this will be offputting.

I love this place - I have to visit every time I am in NY. And every time I have gone with NY'ers who haven't been, they have raved about it. My best night was when we started with beers in the bar, ordered wine, and sake, and food, and more wine..... Spice is a small restaurant, so on Fridays and Saturdays, and most other days it gets very crowded so don't go there for a quiet date. Food is good, great value for money, service can be a bit slow (but this may be due to it being so busy) however I have always found the staff to be responsive when asked for more food/drink/whatever - as long as you get their attention.

I don't know why all these people have negative things to say about Spice. I'm a student at NYU and I go to Spice at least twice a week. Not only do I go for the $6 lunch special but at night for a cheap dinner with my friends. Sometimes, at night, when the it is busy, the waiters and busboys are a bit slow but thats understandable. During the day, there are never any problems. I have had almost everything on the menu and would recommend the shrimp fritters, the duck salad or the calamari salad. For the main course, order pad thai shrimp (make sure to say w/o chicken, as the chicken they put in pad thai is sometimes dry), volcanic chicken, massaman curry chicken or the ginger and pineapple chicken. Make sure to order dessert. The choc cake with green tea ice cream is to die for and their apple dessert is delicious as well.

Reasonably priced very good food. Lunch specials are great. Main course and appetizer for $7. Delivery is fast.

We've been to this place and had awesome food delivered several times - in fact for a short time we thought this place was our favorite. The food is very good, if you can get what you order. The last few times we have got delivery, we have not gotten what we ordered, and they are not at all accomodating at fixing their mistakes. Even though the food is okay, the price and poor service are not worth the effort, after all this is new york city. Spice will have to step up their performance if they expect to continue to do good, if any, business in this town.

I don't get why people love this place. The food is very average, the service is perhaps average and the seating is poor. I don't enjoy being that close to strangers, especially when I'm eating.

I used to go to spice all the time and have recently gone back to find that the service was very poor. The waiter never came to take our order, only after repeatedly flagging down the busboy did our waiter manage to fit us in. The food has become dry and tasteless. In the budding popularity they forgot to concentrate on the most important aspect of a restaurant, the food. Overall the entire quality of spice has gone downhill.
