I went to Spice Market recently with my husband and another couple. We had reservations and we seated promptly upon arriving which was a lovely relief from some trendy restaurants where you have to wait to be seated, even with reservations. We ordered drinks which we good. Ordered 4 various appetizers between the 4 of us. Beef sticks were the best, egg rolls and chicken was pretty good. Service was lacking though, we had to ask several times for water, and we didnt get bread/crackers which I saw every table around us did get. We each ordered an entree, I had the seafood with shrimp and scallops which was not good - it was very overcooked. That was surprising to me. Dessert was good, we shared 2 desserts. Servers forgot my tea and brought the others who ordered after we already finished our dessert. Would not come here again for food, and the service needs improvement. The decor and drinks were lovely. But spend your night somewhere else.

I had heard so much about spice market, and when I first walked in, I really thought it would live up to my expectations. The decor is very intricate, and I'm sure the place looks great at night with low lights and candles. I went for lunch and ordered the prefixe. The beef kabobs were good, but not spectacular. The shanghai noodle soup was supposed to be spicy, but it was greasy and bland. Maybe lunch isn't as great as dinner, but I don't think it's worth risking the money to give it another chance.

Have been a couple of times and really like the vibe of this place. The food was good if a little confusing as it mixes so many different cultures. If you are going to eat then try and get a table downstairs. The bar upstairs is buzzing and not overly crowded when it is busy.

I had been to the downstairs bar a couple of times for drinks and appetizers and found that to be quite good, but I had never tried the proper dining room until last night. I find the criticism undeserved. The food is really quite tasty. It certainly helps if you like spice and Asian food in general. As with other Jean George restaurants, I think his sauces are always the most exciting part of each dish. For example the chicken samosas were good, but with the cilantro yogurt sauce - WOW! And the cod might have been a bit bland if it weren't for the totally brilliant chili Thai basil sauce. They have a nice selection of reasonably priced wines that pair nicely with the strong flavors. Regarding service, this is clearly their weakness. They should hire real waiters instead of model want-to-be's. Several times there seemed to be a swarm of waiters, busboys etc. just hanging around not even looking for to see if any customer needs anything. But honestly this is not a surprise at a place like this and it didn't close to making the overall experience unpleasant. The room is so beautiful that having to wait around a few extra minutes is not that much of a bother... it's a great place to be if you appreciate beautiful surroundings.

The space is beautiful and makes a perfect backdrop for a cocktail. The food was below average. The sauces used masked every dish we ordered and all began tasting alike - spicy. My biggest issue was with the staff - while our waiter was pleasant, everyone else we encountered during our experience was just outright rude. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Went to Spice Market with some friends the other night. Its definitely a fun atmosphere - very Manhattan and trendy, but the food is just ok. Some of the flavors were very overwhelming, and the steak was very fatty. We were basically just underwhelmed by the whole experience. Glad I tried it, but we all agreed we wouldnt go back again.

Drinks are weak, food is poor. It's standard pan asian fare that sounds great but actually tastes subpar. The sauces and marinades that sound delicious are truly poor and pretty much ruin the food. It's a pretty place, but that's about it.
