    Better Than Expected!

Dining at Spice Market was a wonderful experience! We went for Restaurant Week and had to had to ask for the Restaurant Week menu. The staff was amazing and very professional. They explained that they serve everything family style and even after ordering off of the Restaurant Week menu we had sooo much food! Everything was delicious (especially the Jasmine Lemon Soda, Spring Rolls and grilled Tamarind Chicken I highly recommend going, if not for the scrumptious food, go for the outstanding service!

    All in the decor

My friends and I had dinner here on a friday night. We ordered 3 entrees and 4 appetizers. I was the only person that enjoyed my food which included the chicken samosa's and the pork vindaloo. The rest of my party left unsatisfied. The mushroom rolls, garlic & shrimp noodles and short ribs are not tasty at all. It was a lil pricey too. Service was ok, our waiter kept encouraging us to order more food even though we didn't eat half of our food. The atmosphere was perfect, beautiful decor, not too noisy, very romantic. I would go back there for a date.

    Good Food, but subpar service

Went there with a group of 4 last weekend. Two of us ordered from the NYC resturaunt week menu and the other two ordered from the menu. Waitress was nice, but had no clue of what was actually on the menu. I ordered the pork vindaloo and my friend ordered the duck curry. When both dishes arrived, she served me the duck dish and said it was pork. Although I was enjoying the dish, I noticed that the meat was indeed duck and not pork... I called her over and asked her again about which dish was the pork, this time she realized that I was served the duck by mistake and apologized. The timing was also poor. 3 apps came out together, and the last appetizer, a salad, came out 10 minutes after, when everyone else was finished already. The same thing happened with the dinners. I ate here two years ago, and I think the quality of service has gone way down.

    Pleasant Restaurant Week surprise

We went right after work on a Monday night during restaurant week, with fairly low expectations fitting of an upscale place in Meatpacking during RW. What we found was actually quite surprising- they did not shrink the portions in attempt to still make $$$, and there were four, not three courses to the restaurant week menu for the same price. The dishes were excellent (OK, so the cod could have been a bit more tender now that I am being picky), but overall it was not the frenzied, rushed, tasteless B&T infested Meatpacking debacle we were expecting. Definitely exceeded expectations, and I would return to this restaurant again.

Good apps and sides, ok mains, pushy waiters.

Went here the other night... got our table right at the reservation time. Decor was nice... similar feel to Tao, but didn't feel like it was trying as hard, in a good way. Started with the peeky toe crab dumplings... those were awesome. The crab tasted like it was boiled in butter, and the sauce was really good. For the mains, we had the Skirt Steak and the Stripped Bass. The steak was ok... cooked well enough with good seasoning, but didn't strike me as anything special. The bass came smothered in kimchi, which was super spicy. The fish itself was just ok. For the sides, we had the chili garlic noodles with shrimp, and the ginger fried rice. Both sides were amazing... shrimp was cooked perfectly and seasoned well, and the noodles tasted freshly made. The rice was really good too... comes with an over easy egg, which is really good when mushed all around. Didn't get dessert. The thing that bothered me was how pushy the waiter was... we ordered a total of 5 dishes for 2 people, which we didn't even finish. When we ordered the dishes, he suggested we order more. After seeing that we didn't finish our food, don't suggest dessert, and when we say no thanks, don't ask if we are sure.

    Great atmosphere, mediocre food

Went there for a dinner with some friends. Food was nothing special (and not worth the price) , although the service and atmosphere somewhat made up for it. The drinks were delicious. We had a ood experience, but I wouldn't return

    Tasteless food

We recently had dinner at Spice Market. First the positives - the decor is nice. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. The food is extremely bland and tasteless. Whatever they are trying to do with this fusion, contemporary Asian/Thai fare they are serving is really not great. The menu is short and there isn't too much choice. We were so upset with the food that we decided to skip dessert, so as not to waste more money here. Honestly, if they do want to be as pretentious as they are, I'd nail down some decent recipes first. Also, the staff could do with some training too - dozens of waiters, busboys loitering around, laughing, giggling with each other - just does not fit in with the upscale image this restaurant is trying to create.
