    Delivery not recommended

Given the rave reviews on this site and from what I've heard from friends, I've been very anxious to try Spice. Since I happened to have a take out menu at home, I decided to give it a whirl tonight. So, here's what happened... I call to place my order and was immediately told that I had to pay with cash only (although the website and menu state that they accept credit cards). I'm then put on hold for a good while with nothing but awful Michael Jackson-esque techno music to calm my rumbling stomach. By time my order is taken, I'm told that there is a minimum order amount, so I'm forced to order extra food than I wanted. Not the end of the world. But 45 minutes later my food finally shows up from the 12 block hike between my place and the restaurant. In speaking with the delivery guy, I'm told I cannot keep the reciept and notice that on top of the extra food I had to order, there is also a $3.00 delivery charge tacked on. (again, this is not stated on the take out menu or online). Furious and starving, I decide to at least try the food before calling and complaining. The food is lukewarm at best - which is no surprise, given the length of the delivery time. In calling to voice my frustrations, I am again repeatedly put on hold with the same Jacko gone bad techo track to listen to as the hold music. I speak with the manager who informs me that he has reprimanded the phone order girl for a.) telling me I had to pay with cash, when I didn't, and b) for not telling me there is a delivery charge for deliveries over 10 blocks away. This does little to help rectify the now cold food sitting in front of me and my empty wallet. Since I did not have a credit card on file (argh!), the most the manager could do was credit my "account" for a free order of spring rolls for the next time I place a delivery order. Fat chance I'm ordering from there again! I must admit that the food was pretty good (albeit room temperature).

    Spice is the Best!

I live an hour (and a half with traffic) from the city and i go all the way to Spice (in Chelsea) every once in a while just to have their food. It's so amazing and the prices are very reasonable. My boyfriend is such a picky eater..he can spot a microscopic onion and not eat the food because he doesnt like onions.. anyway, i brought him here and he absolutely loved it.. esp the Phuket rice. i dont even have a favorite because i love all of their dishes! The only not so exciting about it is that there's always a lot of people so you would have to wait for a bit, and they don't take reservations.. and the tables are a little small esp when it's crowded.. but overall, it's definitely the most AWESOME Thai place!

I usually dont like thai but wow

My boyfriend and I went here and had an awesome time. The food was great and i adored the volcanic chicken and how it came on fire to my table...This is definitely a restaurant we will be going to again...we had a great time.

    Great food, Great Prices

I highly recommend the Basil dishes, Chicken Basil is absolutely delicious. Also the Red and Green Curries are out of this world. For appetizers, the Emerald Vegetable Dumplings are a great thing to start with. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Great place to take a first date.

    Yummy

I've only been here three times, but I think about all the time.. Though a simple dish-the shrimp fried rice- was tasty. It makes you want to place an additional order to take home because you won't be able to stop.. No doggy bags here....Yumyum

    Always a Sure Bet

My boyfriend and I go here about once a week. I have had everything on the menu. I have never had a bad meal here. Most likely you will have to wait for a table. But it will be well worth the wait. The wine is cheap and it is a perfect place to take people that are visiting from out of town. Modern NYC decor.

    Unrivaled

Extremely good food at a excellent prices. I work in the area and if I'm eating lunch, this where I'm getting it. Food here is the best value that I have seen in all of Manhattan.
