great food & experience
This restaurant was great! I read tons of bad reviews, however I was delighted by my own experience. I did wear jeans, my daughter wore a dress and my husband wore a sport coat. There were several businessmen and a handful of families dining. I had the sirloin and it was really great. The texture and temperature was perfect. Our waiter was pleasant and very attentive. The overall experience is a " five star". You will not be disappointed!

Best Sirloin on the isle of Manhattan
Great bar scene with lots of action; relax and enjoy a JWB on the rocks while your table is prepared. Best Sirloin on the isle of Manhattan. Creamed spinach is the only condiment needed and should be considered steak sauce. When available whole large lobsters are succulent. Servers preform surgery as the buttery meat is dissected table side. The work day has ended, just eat the pure meat and enjoy. Sparks is under-rated, my NYC favorite.

Go for lamb chops
You've got to order the right thing here, as a number of items are pretty average, but if you order the right things Sparks is excellent. Avoid traditional lettuce salads; get either the broiled shrimp or the caprese salad to start. The mozzarella is unbelievable; the waiter wouldn't tell me where they get it. And forget steak - get the lamb chops, which are the best in NY. 3 chops, thick, tender, juicy, and slightly charred. Excellent. Good bartenders and wine list as well - bartenders give a good pour.

I lived in the city over 10 years ago. My wife and I used to go to Sparks regularly. The service was always good to great, and yes I would wear a suit or some nice slacks and shirt (to top that off I had hair down my back and a handle bar mustache). Yeah, the place is expensive; don't like it go to The Outback. The price and its attitude keep the screaming brats and idiot adults OUT. I used to get the filet most of the time, and it was awesome, and that goes for the occassional sirloin as well. I could give a rats butt about some "mob hit" from a million years ago. Oh yeah, as far as the interior is concerned...I loved it! I like the 70's. It's nice to have a place where you need to look like you at least try to clean up and keep the baggy pant backwards cap crowd out. It's just too bad you can't smoke a cigar there like back when I lived in NYC.

Never going back
Rude, unhelpful and indifferent waiters, two different portions of beef come out with the same exact sauce on top and the price. I feel taken. Coasting on the lore of a mob hit.

Tasty splurge!
Enjoyed an amazing anniversary meal here recently. Yes sirloin is their specialty, but don’t let that influence you if you truly prefer other cuts. My husband & I both ordered the filet mignon because we LOVE that cut above all others…we were not disappointed at Sparks! Our waiter heard us say that we were splitting our sides & he separated our dishes onto 2 plates without our requesting that, which we really appreciated (our sides were a tasty baked tater & a hearty portion of asparagus we didn’t finish because the steaks were so deliciously generous & filling). Our waiter also split our dessert without our requesting that; again a nice touch. Dessert was berries w/ ice cream – their ice cream is sensational! The servers here seems remote demeanor-wise – they don’t introduce themselves by name, so I guess they want to convey an overall sense of formality – but don’t let that throw you off, they are attentive & friendly. I disagree w/ the review that says you have to wear a suit or spend a lot of money here to get great treatment – we were dressed on the nicer side of casual, we only ordered juice/soda, steak, sides & dessert (not a ton of extras), & we received outstanding service. Yes a meal here is a bit spendy but for a rare tasty splurge, it is utterly worth it!
