Real bakery,good value, mixed staff
Perfect for the neighborhood, cranky at times but they've got the goods

Pretty Wedding Cakes & Baked Chicken!!
The baked chicken was very, very good! You gotta bite into one when it's piping hot!! We tasted a few things on the menu and didn't think the cakes tasted that good although they look very good! The croissant was very disappointing -- my husband who isn't a chef can make one of those any day!

poor service, mediocre cake
I needed a birthday cake and loved the idea of going to a local bakery. The owner was impatient, rude, and downright mean as I was asking her advice about cake flavors, etc. I picked up the cake, which was very pretty, but it wasn't very good. It tasted like a supermarket chocolate cake. I love supporting local businesses, but would not recommend this bakery because I was treated so disrespectfully, and because the chocolate birthday cake with raspberry mouse was not good. I can't speak for anything else because I didn't taste anything else. I went out of my way to go to a neighborhood place but will never return to Soutine.

Wonderful Neighborhood Bakery
I love the food at Soutine, but even more I love Marge the owner and her wonderful staff. A delightful old UWS institution that deserves all the praise it receives

Best bakery around!
Soutine has been on the UWS for as long as I can remember - an old, reliable favorite for all my baked goods. The pies and cakes are wonderful - for any occasion. Even had my wedding cake made here - unbelievable. And Madge does wonderful catering - doesn't have to be for a big occasion. I love the tart tatin and fruit pies. Often pick up dinner food on the way home - fabulous...

Best Bakery on UWS
The banana bread, pies, chocolate fudge cakes, croissants, and Concord are the best. The conccord is a fabulously festive looking cake made of chocolate meringue and great chocolate mouse. Have not seen it anywhere else.

Best Real Artisan Bakery on UWS
This longtime Upper West Side classic has the best baked goods from the addictive cheese rolls to custom cakes and other fancy fixin's for your wedding or birthday celebration. Every year when our kids were growing up we would order birthday cake from Soutine, each year decorated with whatever was the rage and the grown-ups always helped devour it. In an age of overpriced second-rate trendy kitsch, Soutine is a real gem and it's great to have in the neighborhood.
