First time they treated me like a southerner, second time like a yank!

How could a place be soo inconsistant?! The first time I ate here I was impressed by their ribs! they were smokey, flavorful, with a nice pink color. So I went back, and was served dried out leftovers! Never going back!

    Great food

I am not from NYC, but I have been to this restaurant a few times while visiting the city. The food is good, homestyle food. The price is also good, no restaurant is cheap in the city. All in all, it is good quality and the price is decent. It can get a bit rowdy at times when a game is on, but other then that the staff is very friendly.

    Great NYC Hideaway!

When I walk into Southern Hospitality, I forget that I'm in NYC. Always fun, warm smiles - a great "local". And you absolutely HAVE TO try the pecan pie - the best I've ever had!

    Southern Hospitality not so Hospitable

I was at Southern Hospitality this weekend for a friend's birthday party. Upon ordering our first round of drinks the bartender was a little rude. We ignored it and continued celebrating our friends birthday. We eventually decided that we would order some food and sat at a table by the window. We asked the waitress for menus. About a half hour later my friend stepped outside and grabbed a few to go menus so we could figure out what we wanted. The waitress finally walked by again and I asked if we could order food. She asked (with a complete attitude) if we had a tab at the bar and we advised her no. Then she proceeded to tell us that we would have to order everything from her and couldn't go to the bar anymore. I'm thinking ..fine we are at a table and want food. Then with more attitude says "What do you want" at this point I said I'll go across the street and get pizza. She cheerfully said ok and walked away. I've never in my life had such horrible service at a restaurant and I will NEVER return! From what I've heard the food is terrible anyway, but we never got to try it. So if you want to go to a restaurant where the staff doesn't want to serve you.. by all means.. go here.. I'll save my money for a place that actually wants it.

    Not worth going

Uninteresting place with mediocre food. I've never before had such bland barbecue.

    A Slight Notch Above Average

Brother Jimmy's right across the street may actually have the same kitchen as this place for all I know. The ribs have a slightly smokier taste to them that BJ's, and the sides are much better, although everything seems to have pepper on it. Not a bad thing for me, but I can't imagine everyone wants a coating of pepper on everything they eat. The place at times can be really dark, and it doesn't have the all out college vibe of BJ's. All in all pretty good, but if you want authentic BBQue, you may have to venture out of the UES.
