    Better than expected

    We were hesitant to visit after reading the reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server was congenial and our orders came out very quickly. Some items seemed a little pricey, however all of the portions were huge. The peach cobbler was by far the best I have had anywhere. The atmosphere was typical for a bar/restaurant of this type; the music was enjoyable and not too loud. Our only complaint was that the ladies room was apparently out of order and a lot of hammering and drilling went on during our meal. Overall, the experience was much better than expected.

    I've had better in NYC

    I eat out on a daily basis and love to try to places. I love southern food and was so excited to try this place since it is so close to my apt. My friend n I arrived on a steamy day and had to sit outside because it was so full inside - no problem. We sat outside for at least 15 mins before we received anything. We finally got our drinks, but the beer was warm! I had the fried chicken which was so dry, hard and cold and had no flavor. The mac n cheese was also tasteless and the corn bread looked and tasted like something out of a cardboard box! I have never been so disappointed by a NY restaurant. Maybe we had a bad night but I cant believe the quality of the food would change this much from night to night. I predict this place will not be open for long so any JT fans who want to check it out better do so soon.

    Head to a real BBQ place instead

    My friends and I 'dined' here last night and the experience was pretty dismal. The menu is still limited, so we opted for the fried green tomatoes and nachos (after the waitress told us how amazing they were- 5 different cheeses). The tomatoes were decent, but the nachos were almost inedible. They had this gloppy white cheese on them, that was unidentifiable. When our dinners arrived, they all had the wrong sides accompanying them and the mac & cheese, which she also told us was awesome, had that same, disgusting white cheese in it. The pork was decent, as were the peel & eat shrimp, but it's pretty hard to mess that up. When asked why the mac & cheese looked different when shown on TV, the waitress informed us that they used to make it in a casserole, but since everyone orders it, they just can't. Instead, they just throw some boiled pasta and gross cheese together. Additionally, when we asked for warm biscuits (ours were rock hard and cold) she came back with one that she informed us she put in the microwave. On top of the food, it was unbelievably loud and the service could use some work. I'd say to skip it and head to a real BBQ place.

    Bring my appetite back

    Dear JT, They should have put YOU on the menu, then there might have been something edible there. Nothing there is seasoned. The "spicy Louisiana style" peel and eat scriimp was shrimp cocktail, lets be honest. The catfish tasted like it was 10 days old, we had to send it back and I still took a swigg of pepto afterwards. But hey at least the manager was cute, if you're reading this, call me.

    Glad I didn't listen to the reviews!

    Before heading to the East side, I read the reviews here for Southern Hospitality. My daughter is a big JT fan, so for the heck of it - we went. I dreaded ordering the Mac & cheese, but with the size of our group, we were able to just about order everythiing on the menu! I think a lot of people are used to Kraft Mac & Cheese and what you get here is good OLD fashioned Mac & Cheese. No the fake stuff. I wish we ordered more! Loved the onion rings (YOU MUST TRY THE BBQ SAUCE ON EVERYTHING!!) Fries, cornbread, chicken fingers - GREAT! The baby back ribs were what we ordered. The big ribs just looked too big and dry (not to say they were) Pulled pork - frired chicken - YUMMY! Again, use the BBQ sauce A MUST! Collard greens - good, potatoe salad, greenbeans with bacon !!! Tater tots did remind me of OREIDA, didn't care for those. THE ONLY DOWN SIDE to this restaurant was the bathroom. Dirty, smelly and just plain nasty. There should definitely be someone checking on the restrooms more often. That could make or break a place. Hope they read this! Try Southern Hospitality - bring a nice group so you can try everything! (Just go to the restroom at home before hand!)

    let down

    Food was subpar, corn bread was like left overs, mac and cheese dry/cold. Did not see any manager control at all seemed like free for all. But, hostess friendly, bar drinks good, atomosphere full and good.

    Not impressed

    After trying to eat here for a couple of weeks and being turned away 2 times as they don't serve food between 3-4pm (what??) and being told that you need to make reservations 5 days in advance (who do they think they are, Per Se??), my friend and I finally went early Sunday evening despite reading the reviews here. She got the pulled pork sandwich and I got the fried chicken. Unlike other people who have written reviews here, my mac and cheese was hot and pretty edible but was just plain maccaroni covered in what looked like the cheese sauce on green giant frozen vegetables. The corn on the cob had a strange bitter taste and had no butter on it. Both of our orders of fries were cold and chewy. My chicken didn't look like any fried chicken I've ever had and was cooked in bbq sauce and rock hard. My friend's pulled pork sandwich was okay but the smallest she'd ever seen. Also, what southern restaurant doesn't have mashed potatoes on their menu?? Chaos ensued over trying to get a refill on the sweet tea. They first said they were brewing a new batch so it would be a few minutes, which was fine. But 15 minutes later our waitress said there would be no more sweet tea at all despite another restaurant guy telling us every few minutes it would be out any minute. So do they run out of tea at 6:30pm and that's it for the rest of the night?? We felt like they were just trying to get us out so they could turn the table over. We heard quite a few people leaving the restaurant complaining about their service as well. Can't figure out if it's just teething problems of a new restaurant or if they are just plain bad. Sorry JT, not impressed!
