    The best

Absolutely my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The owners are friendly, the vibe is completely relaxed, and last but not least, the food is delicious and is served in very generous portions. And they definitely go the extra mile; most recently, I stopped by to order some food and one of their fresh smoothies to be picked up after running some errands. After placing my order, I realized that I had forgotten to ask that they wait to make the smoothie until I returned for pick-up. I was told that it had already been made, so I asked that they put it in the fridge. When I returned, I was asked to wait a minute while they made me another smoothie on the house. It's that kind of place.

Had a 18th B'day party at the restaurant

Great location, easy access to all transportation systems. Food was great and service was good. Music was wonderful and option to personalize the location with decorations and set menu was perfect. This is a well kept secret in the neighborhood. Good location for parties and can accomodate up to approx 70 guests easily. If planning for the summer, think of using the outside patio area with chairs/tables and finger food.

    Unacceptable!

Ok, so I gave a rave review below. Yes the food is good. I went back for the talapia that people here were talking about and it's good but the seasoning is only on the fish skin so by the time you get to the bulk of the meat, you have to start eating the onions to get some flavor on it. And it is served with the head and tail on it! The main reason why I'm writing again is because the first time the waitress charged us $5 for plantains that were supposed to come with it, I brought it to her attention and she said she couldn't do anything about it. But yesterday, She did it again! I don't wanna eat anywhere where they specifically tell you that you have an option of a side order, you choose plantains, then they bring u rice and plantains, you remind them that you dont want rice and ask if iit's free or something and they say yes. At this point to me it's severely irresponsible on their part. And the smoothies are NOT great as the other reviewer said. Overall rating is a 3 out of 5.

    Look No Further

I ordered based on reviews here. Since I love lamb, I ordered the Dibi lamb, but the bones are small & U really have to dig in to get the meat so you should order Dibi Chicken instead. The Dibi seasoning/ style is great! The Yassa is also YUH-MEE, but if you don't like moderately hot/ spicy food, move on. The "exotic rice" as a side is good but very oily, so I'd forgo that. The chicken with peanut sauce was the best of the 3 (ALL eexcellent) dishes. I couldn't taste peanuts though, it seemed to be tomato- based. The waitress didn't speak much English when it comes to specific questions or requests, & I had to speak in French to get things done the way we asked. The decor is okay and he service is slow. We were there for abouut 3 hrs chatting which was polite of them to let us stay. I wish one more person was withus so I could've tasted the tilapia. With all that said, it is the BEST African restaurant I've ever been to and I will return again and again.

    Good West African Food

The food was good! I had the Dibi Chicken (which is grilled chicken with the bones that is marianted with various african spices including ginger) and Attieke (which is cassava couscous)- both were very tasty. Like other small ethnic restaurant spots a lot of things on the menu they don't always have- but what they do have is good. I'll be going back for the grilled tilapia- which I heard is fantastic.

    Great food. Nice spot.

We live in E. Harlem but hadn't tried this spot. I would definitely recommend it. Great food, good price, nice set up, good service. Worth a trip for those that don't live up here.

    The Absolute Best

I had the pleasure of dining at South Beach in July, and I must say, I am hooked. Their food, presentation, service and value was excellent. I took my left overs back to home and my mother loved the food. I had Yassa Chicken. The next day I attempted to duplicate it using a recipe found on the internet, my mother informed me it was okay, but not what I had brought back from New York.
