i am an LES resident, and was drawn to try the place by a special they were running for locals in Feb. To my surprise, the food was well prepared, the service well timed, and the atmosphere both intimate and unforced. The prices, $28 for a four course dinner, are unheard of in NYC, and for food of this quality, I have no idea how they can afford to do it, but as long as the food and service are this good, I'm not asking any questions. I am now going back there for the third time this year...you should too!

I also live in the neighborhood and dined here last night with a friend. We were happy to find a quiet place among the noisy and crowded LES venues. We decided on the prix fixe menu and from the gratis starter of little bite-sized spinach puffs (in addition to the starters we had ordered) to the fair trade organic coffee; everything was absolutely perfectly prepared and delicious. We had the ginger salmon cakes and the fettuccine with balsamic reduction as our starters - both were excellent and full of flavor. We both had the salmon as our main course and it too was delicious and prepared exactly medium rare as ordered. The desserts we chose: apple pie a la mode and cheese cake with a Jack Daniels creme anglais sauce were both very good, although we did prefer the pie over the cheese cake which was the only fairly ordinary part of the entire meal (I think the sauce could have used more Jack Daniels but I'm no gourmet!) Even the small details were perfect such as the yummy dinner rolls with three kinds of homemade butter to the ice water with super, fresh lemon slices. The service from both our waiter and the female server, who diligently kept our water glasses full, was impeccable, attentive and friendly. The courses were perfectly timed and never rushed. The restaurant was quite empty but the atmosphere was still pleasant due to the lovely, soft music playing and so we were able to converse without shouting across the table at each other. The space itself is very comfortable with high ceilings and understated furnishings. There were some interesting and cool contemporary color photographs and paintings up as decor and our only real complaint was that the temperature in the restaurant got a bit chilly towards the end of the evening. Both my friend and I were so pleased to have found this restaurant and thought the price of the prix fixe was an excellent deal for the 3 courses plus coffee. The portions were perfectly sized; generous without being overwhelming. I definitely highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for excellent food with a quiet atmosphere and I plan to go back soon.

I ate here for the first time & live in the neighborhood. There was no other people in the restaurant besides my friend & I. I found the food to be unflavorful.
