In fall 2012 I visited the New York location and August 2013 I went to the New Jersey location and as my title describes I was pleased both times. The decor at the NY location is beautiful. The NJ is nice as well but not as nice as NY However, the amazing view and outside space the NJ location provides you be very happy. Live trendy atmosphere. Tasty strong drinks. I ordered the steak, fried plantins and red rice and beans, my friend order the same and we were both very please and we shared avocado(healthy) the bill was about 115.00 for two people, pretty much the same amount it would be at Houston's. The NY location I ordered a rotisserie chicken with white rice and beans. Still very satisfied. It is very loud BC of the live band then music they which I enjoy But when your trying to talk it can get annoying BC you end up screaming over dinner. My server gave honest suggestions to replace sides etc. I'm happy I'll be taking. My mom there it will be a regular spot for me.

When you walk into Son Cubano you should not be surprised when looking at your bill. Your paying for the ambiance as another reviewer cited. Personally I rather eat elsewhere (IE: Rincon Criollo Corona Queens or many other casual great Latin eats throughout the city). Most of the times I have visited; I just enjoy some mojitos & appetizer (pricey enough) and get my salsa groove on. Again I’m not saying the food is not bad, it’s just very $$$$ just be aware.

I went with a group of friends to eat at this restaurant, I'm Caribbean and I am very fussy eater when it enters the place is completely blue and evokes the old Cuba, the atmosphere is super good very Latin and my friends and I had good time, they order a spicy margarita called flor brava or something like that, women dancing all night, live music, food is originally Cuban, the service takes a little time, you must have patience

Was welcomed in by very nice hostesses and served by an attentive bartender while we waited for the rest of our group. The place is beautifully-decorated and featured a live band. The band was good, though several people in my group complained that the volume was too high to maintain a conversation. Dinner started with a waiter opening and pouring several bottles of water for our large party before asking if we preferred tap. Underhanded, but a great gig for them at $8/bottle (as we found out at the end). The food was fairly good, with the starters being more memorable than the main course. The croquettes (both potato and crab) and the octopus were great.. I definitely had much better paella, particularly value-wise, but here you're paying for the ambiance more than the food. My companions liked the steak and pork dishes. The waiter kept forgetting our drinks, and while I normally tip well, I felt he did not deserve the mandatory 20% tip included for large parties. I was also surprised to find a 16% tip automatically added when I bought a round of shots with a credit card at the bar, later in the evening. I didn't mind, as the bartender was good, but found the practice unusual. Late in the evening the place turns into a fun dance spot, with music alternating between Spanish and pop hits.

I really enjoyed my experience at the new son cubano. The staff is very welcoming and the drinks amazing, they had a live band on the night I went - it was nice. The crowd is young and hip filled with professional ppl.
