    Not so great

I usually don't post reviews but I'm just annoyed with kosher restaurants offering sub-par service. Went to the "new" Solo yesterday. Ordered one fritto misto as appetizer, it was missing the eggplant. I let that one go. I then ordered the nicoise salad and it was missing the potatoes (nicoise is supposed to have a boiled potato). When I told the waiter, he brought me a small cup of sauteed potatoes, without even explaining or apologizing for the omission. We had to ask 15 times for bread, service was very poor. And it cost us over $100 for 3 salads and one appetizer...kinda ridiculous. Won't go back there, it is a rip off and the food wasn't even great!

Eh, there are definitely better places in NYC

Solo's ambiance is better than most other kosher restaurants-it's quite and the lighting sets a nice mood. However, I was unimpressed with the food, especially given the price. We ordered the beef sliders for our appetizer, they were nothing special. For our main, I got the the Duck a l'Orange and my husband got the Cowboy steak. His steak was very good, though rare (not medium-rare, as he had ordered it). My dish was dried out and while the truffle flavor came through, the Duck was slightly dry and did not have any orange flavor whatsoever. The next time I want a nice kosher dinner I'm going somewhere else.

    expensive poor wait staff

This rest is way too expensive in every respect. The food is ok but the wait staff is not very helpful. If you do not need glatt , go to the second ave kosher deli and get some very good food at much better prices

    Not recommended

My husband I went to Solo last night for dinner and the experience was horrific. I ordered a salad which was so dry and boring that I couldn't even finish it. My husband ordered the sushi for $23 which said it came with a salmon, yellowtail and tuna roll. For $23, I would have assumed it would have been 3 rolls, but inetad it was 1 roll with 2 pieces of each kind of fish. For $23, you get ONE ROLL! For dinner, I ordered the beef short ribs which I was lookikng forward to as I love the ones at Mike's Bistro. They were very bland and had no taste and again I didn't finish them. My husband ordered a fish dish which he said was pretty tasteless as well. Solo used to be a good kosher restaurant but the food was beyond abyssmal and incredibly overpriced for what you got. I would highly recommend staying away from Solo.

    Gift Card Highway Robbery

The food was average to slightly above average for a top NYC kosher restaurant, but it is grossly overpriced ($23 for an average sized sushi roll???). The real kicker, however, is that we were dining using a generous gift of 2 $100 gift cards. When we tried to pay our bill of $145 (for 2) we were told that you can't "retain" any credit on the card. In other words, Solo would not keep the remaining $55 on the card; you had to use it all in one sitting or lose it. And to make matters worse, you couldn't put the gratuity on the card; that had to be paid out of pocket. While these terms are printed in small type on the back of the card, none of them were disclosed at the time of purchase, nor is this information anywhere on their web stie. What kind of a system is that? It's borderline fraud, that's what, and we feel completely manipulated. Needless to say, we will not be returning, and I recommend you don't either.

    Excellent Kosher Food, Good Service

I ate at Solo last night and do NOT understand the recent negative reviews. The food was excellent and imaginative (try the chicken in a pot or the lamb). The ambience was VERY pleasant, with widely spaced tables and nice modern (but not austere) decor. The waiter was kind, attentive, and altogether terrific. Yes, the prices are on the high side--this is a Kosher restaurant. If you were looking for a cheap cheeseburger, this is not the place. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. How can a place that gives you a big place of hummus FREE to nosh on while waiting for your food be bad?

    not worth the money

I went with my husband for my birthday and was really disappointed. First of all our table was wedge in between 2 other tables and I was getting knocked throughout my meal. When the waiter came with the menu he pushed and I mean pushed to order the most expensive steak ($68). We must have waited 45 mints for it to come out. When they brought out the steak there were no side dishes. I spent $68 on a steak and was still hungry after I ate it. Would defiantly not go again and not worth the money.
