Hope this place never leaves the UES

Food is great great great and the mixed drinks are just as memorable. You must try the Moscow Mule with ginger...you will crave this drink for the rest of the week. Cheesecake for dessert is superb...gram cracker crust made fresh everyday (that's the secret to great cheesecake) For entree the salmon with mushrooms in a truffle sauce is savory and addictive. The entree plates are smaller portions but coupled with an appetizer should be enough. Really love this place and hope it sticks around for a while.

    Good food, poor service

I live on the UES and would frequent this restaurant often, as it was always reliable when it came to the food and has a great vibe. However, I will NEVER go back there again. First, it was a Tuesday night at 8:45 so it was far from crowded. After 20 minutes of being seated we finally caught the bus boys attention to send the waiter over so we can order a drink. Strike one - waiting 20 mins to get a waiter to come and ask for drink order. Since we had plenty of time to review the menu, we ordered three small plates at the same time we ordered our first round of drinks. 30 minutes later our potato croquettes came with our drink. So now, it's 50 minutes into sitting until we got one small plate and one drink. Another 20 mins later, the second plate came and we ordered second round of drinks. 20 minutes later we finally got our second round of drinks and our last plate. Stike two - waiting 1.5 hours in total for 3 small plates and 2 cocktails a person. Then, the owner comes over in an arrogant way to apologize for the wait. After that, we naturally thought we'd get comp'd one drink, offered an after dinner drink or dessert on the house. No dice. Strike three: no class. I have sent many people to this restaurant and never will again.

    Fantastic place

Love this place. Went to it once before they were forced to change the name from Stanton to Sojourn due to another Stanton restaurant. It is always delicious and fun. I have never eaten in the dining room-always at the bar and love love love this place. A gem in an area filled with mediocrity. The black pasta rocks, the wines are superb and I highly recommend the trout salad. Yum.

    Food is only ok

When we walked in the place was so crowded. I did not think we would be seated for quite sometime however we got a seat right away. Then I realized it's probably because they grab your plate before you are even done. The salads were probably the best part of the whole dinner. The tuna tartare and baby bok choy were so salty that they were inedible. The skirt steak was well done when we had ordered it to be medium and the chicken satay was just bad. I cannot say I would ever return for the food. However the wine selection was pretty good and the atmosphere was fun. This would be a place I would come back to for drinks and dessert if at all.

    Couldn't hear you...

This place was so frigging loud that I could barely digest the greasy food. Very nice wait staff, but please avoid this place unless you bring earplugs

A great addition to UES Dining

Sojourn is a delightful departure from the typically stoggy and pricey UES restaurants. The menu's creative assortment of small plates is hard to choose from; every one is delicious. The wine selection is supurb (owner Stanton is a sommelier). The wait staff know their wines, too and advise well. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting with hip kind of flair. All in all, we love the place and go back often. Try it!

    Solid food

Consistenly good food not commonly found on the UES. Sojourn would be much more typical if it were downtown, but on 79th street its a welcome addition. To any of the negative reviews, what alternative do we have if we want to stay in the neighborhood? Highlights for me are the sliders, frisee salad, butternut squash salad, black pasta, and the skirt steak. Not a dessert guy, but the cheesecake is very good, the blueberry topping needs a little work but otherwise a wonderful ending. I generally dont get caught up in price bc its NYC and nothing is reasonable here, but for the money i suppose its decent value.
