I went with a group of 7 for dinner on a Thursday night. We were waiting at the bar for everyone to arrive and I found the hostesses to be on the snotty side, and the bartenders extremely aloof. Our waiter was really nice though. The food was on the greasy side and just kind of boring actually. The mofongo was pasty and mostly tasteless, I was shocked. The atmosphere was fun although I have to agree with others that the non stop happy birthday singing gets really annoying, as does the cheesy KTU music. This place has so much potential but its just not a "nice" place.

My first time going there the music was very good. Atmosphere was excellent. Food was very good and didn't wait long for it to come. Waiter was very attentive and polite, Also heard about 5 birthday songs but it really didn't bother me. I have a great time there and would highly recommended to anyone, and yes i'm going back again. Prices are also reasonable, For a party of 4, it only came out to$110. 4 Course meals and drinks and mojito.

Sofrito is a great place to go. The food was delicious, very tasty , the waiter, music and ambiance was great. One of the best places to eat Caribbean food. Food cost -reasonaly priced.

We arrived at 9:00 for dinner and sat to eat at 12:00 A.M. The "Sancocho" looked and tasted like the chef scraped the bottom of what was left in the pot and threw in cold water in it and forgot to add meat, it was tasteless. Our hostess forgot us numerous times. We were left with no forks to eat. The drinks were watered down. The female bartenders served you expensive drinks with no napkins to protect the drinks from those who had to show off their latest moves on the floor.

I agree with many of the reviews. YES! for the food and the portions, YES for the drinks (typically priced for New York), YES! for the service - eventhough I had a waiter in training, he was very attentive, polite and professional. NO! for the loudness in the dining room. NO! for the large entourage singing happy birthday at least five time while I was there. (too many people singing). Never where we rushed (SUNDAY is a great day to go). Finding parking in the area on Sunday wasn't bad either. Would I go again - YES!

Three friends and I dined at Sofrito on August 22. As the resturant did not accept reservations we had to wait a brief time to be seated. The space was buzzing with activity and extremely noisy. The staff was attentive...sometimes much too attentive. My party placed our appetizer and drink orders and a few moments later waiter returned asking us for our entree order. I said we would like to start the appetizer first and then order. He politely stated that the orders must be placed at the same time and that our appetizer order had not been sent to the kitchen yet. I have never heard of this. I view this a a way of driving the bill up...forcing people to order more food than they could comfortably eat but still have to pay for. That should have been a warning to me. The food was tasty and the portions were substantial enough. However, the prices on some of the items were outrageous. One of the specials, steak and shrimp, which one in the party order without asking the price, was $37 and was billed on the check as surf-n-turf. Surf and turf without lobster for $37!? The steak was sliced beef and there were just a few large shrimp on the plate. FORGET IT! Now for the drinks...FORGET THEM...they are watered down and served in very small glasses, yet still carried the $10 (minimum) price tag. My party ordered the Mojitos. Do not go here if you are looking to chat and spend ANY time enjoying the food and company. You are rushed out of the resturant like a bastard child at the reading of his rich father's will. When the check was presented to us...$300+ a 20% tip had already been added, making for a $50 tip. I don't know about the rest of you...but, if I am paying $50 in tips, I want to be able to linger a bit and not be given the BUMS RUSH. Go to Sofrito (sit in the bar area) ONLY if you are looking for a quick nosh-pre clubbing or partying. Order one drink and the sample appetizer plater for your party. You will still end up spending a minimum of $25, per person, but if you like that atmosphere, it will be worth it. If you are like me, however, and you like being able to eat and chat without yelling at other members at your table, find some other venue. Will not go back for dinner.
