    Excellent Food

The food here is AWESOME. I love it. The Shrimp tostones appetizer is to die for! And the Churrasco is so yummy! The hostess has a typical New York attitude, which I find to be annoying, but once you're seated, it's a real treat. The food is extremely inexpensive, and absolutely delicious! I've been many times and never had a bad meal. The Sangria is great too.

    Lots of attitude, little substance

I am not sure if the other reviewers ate at the same place, because the food was below average and without taste. There was some mystery object in the chicken empanadas, the beef ones were fair at best and the arroz con pollo bland. It was quite early and the noise was out of control loud. Half the tables were empty, but they push people to eat at the bar and they refuse to spread parties for two out among the tables, instead you are right on top of each other. The hostess and host have quite the attitude. The waiter was good. The place itself is nothing special; it has a bit of a university cafeteria feel to it. If you like big portions of below par food and do not mind not hearing or talking to the people you are with than Sofrito is the place for you.

    Delicious food but deafening noise!

Excellent food with generous portions, nice room and very reasonable prices. However, I'm afraid we won't be returning. We wouldn't have minded that the tables for two are right next to each other and it becomes sort of a communal table, but the noise level is deafening to the point of unbearable. We had to yell across the table and left as soon as we were finished because we couldn't take it any longer. This was a Wednesday night and I cannot imagine what it must be like on Saturdays. I simply cannot enjoy dinner in such circumstances and my husband flatly refuses to repeat the experience. Too bad because the food is really very good and I would have loved to try some of the other things on the menu. Maybe they can do something about the accoustics in which case I would be happy to go back, but not before that.

Thanks to all the other reviewers

I was fortunate to stumble on this website and relied on the comments of previous diners before trying Sofrito. All of the adoration of the reviewers on Sofrito were accurate. The food, especially the empanadas, is outstanding. In addition, we had appetizers, martinis and two entrees for less than $60.00, which is rare in the city. I travel to NYC once a year and will make Sofrito and yearly pilgramage.

    Fabulous dining experience

I've been to Sofrito two weeks in a row. Thats how great this restaurant is. First of all the atmosphere and the ambiance is wonderful. The layout is superb and it just looks great. Secondly the staff here is outstanding, especially Iman who is the manager. She made my dining experience complete. She is very warm, personable and very accomodating. I also met the owner's Jimmy and JR and they are wonderful as well. The food is delicious, from the empanadas to the pernil. And the drinks are great to. It's a dining experience that should not be missed. Sofrito just got another faithful customer.

    Excellente!

A group of us dined at Sofrito's for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I have to admit it was great! The music, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The whole place is very ultra chic. The Bar which is about 100 feet long (which makes it easy to obtain drinks we thought:) has different colors vibrating from within the wall shelves where the bottles of liquor are kept. Some would even say it is somewhat romantic & cozy. The owners and service where very attentive to our large party, making sure all was in order with our meals, which we thought was special. And the Puerto Rican dishes are super! We ordered 15-20 different meals and they were all superb! And what was even better was our tab for the night, it was very reasonable. Once you visit Sofrito you will see that thier is no comparison to any other location you will visit in the midtown area. I have revisited with friends and family and we always leave happy. So hope your visit is as enjoying as ours was.

    Terrific drinks and food

The food here was awesome. We had the house salad and the tostones montaditos (shrimp) for appetizers, both were great! Fish and pork chops for dinner. A couple of drinks and even dessert... the tres leches and the coconut rice pudding ... everything was so good!! The prices are so affordable for the amount of food you get. The only thing that I have to say I was disappointed on was the service of the waiter. While very attentive, he was not helpful. We asked what he recommended or if they had specials for the evening and he proceeded to practically read the entire menu to us, which we could've done on our own. The waiter was not informed on the plates or how they were cooked and what ingredients they had. All in all, I thought this place was great and will be going back soon.
