This place was great! My boyfriend and I went there this past Saturday and we were so impressed! We got there right when it opened so there was no wait. The waiters were so warm and friendly and the place had a great vibe. I had no problem with the music...the only time it good loud was when they brought out cake for birthdays but that was fun b/c everyone sang along and clapped :) The price was also great...for under $100 we had two yummy drinks, two fabulous appetizers, two HUGE/delicious entrees, dessert and coffee...def a great deal for the city :)

on friday nite at 7pm, i went to dinner with 5 friends and the 6 of us were sat at a table for 4 . since they dont take reservations and we were warned that the wait was 2 hours-we took it. we were on top of each other, elbows touching. we were so smashed together that our plates literally didnt fit on the table. the place was so unbelievebly loud that we couldnt hear across our table. the food was ok, not too spectacular. our table was cleared and we were told immediately by the waiter that if didnt order dessert "now" he'd have to bring the check. believe me that we were not lingering and we had ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees. they just wanted to turn over the table. we told the waiter that we wanted to order after dinner drinks. he relunctantly bought them and pressed us for dessert again. he told us that the table had to be turned over. we made our dessert choices and were rushed out. pathetic. the place is chaotic, loud. we were finally asked point blank to leave so that another group could sit. we were at our table for about an hour and a half. dont recomend this place unless its a sunday afternoon.

The food is good, and the atmosphere (if you like really loud music while you eat) is great. If you like being rushed out of your table after you’ve traveled an hour and a half from Upstate NY and paid almost a grand for dinner, then this is the place for you! On a more serious note, the overall experience is not worth the money. The service is poor all across the board. Our waiter took our orders and still, we had to send at least two dishes back as they were not what we’d ordered. The wait staff is pushy and they rudely reach over your head to set down plates of food. We had to request utensils and they never cleared the table of the empty pitchers so we had to remove them ourselves. They advertise a chopped salad with avocado, although not a single person at our table had a single slice of it in their salads. And all of this, while the owner looked on. People were annoyed and arguing as one group of patrons who had arrived much later, was seated before they were. After we ate our waiter, whom we only saw when we first sat down, came, picked up the money and asked us to clear the table for other guests. We got up, with our dinner drinks in hand and walked over to the bar area to finish them. We hung around for about an hour and noticed that they had never filled the table. You can’t get tackier than that. My take is, it's a nice place to hang out but I wouldn't go there to eat on a Saturday again.

The food was delicious, and served in large portions. Since our party was more than 7, we were forced to take a pre-fixe menu, which wasn't too bad but there was too much food for some of us. The decor was trendy and chic, however the atmosphere did not fit the scene. Every 5 minutes, the wait staff would loudly sing happy birthday to a guest, and at the end of the night, it seemed that each table had a birthday celebrant. It's not a place to catch up with friends, because you literally have to shout in order for the person sitting next to you can hear you and vice versa. Also we were rushed out after we paid for our check. Our server asked us to leave so that the next party can take our table. I would go back again perhaps on a less busy night. If anything else, try it once for the food.

My girlfriend dragged me to the city for dinner and I was skeptical because neither of us had eaten at this place before. Her coworkers recommended it. We live in Brooklyn but after eating there,I would go back in a flash. Totally awesome food, drinks (that sofrito mojito is awesome dudes) and atmosphere. It wasnt bad at all for all the food we had, including appetisers, entree and dessert and drinks. And we took home doggie bags too.I recommend trying it just once. You will see what I mean.

We have been to Sofrito several times. I really enjoy the food, and the prices are quite reasonable for Manhattan. BUT-you can't hear yourself think! The restaurant was sooooo noisy that it was painful. Our table (4 people) was in the center, but other tables were not that close to us-yet we had to yell to attempt to talk to each other. The noise level is unacceptable. There is a difference between loud and painfully loud. This was just too much. In addition, there were no fewer than 7 birthdays in the time we were there-and each one is acknowledged with loud singing. Overall, great food, a bad experience. I know that the noise is a cultural "thing" but there is a point of rediculous. The sound needs to be toned down so it is a pleasant experience too. The food is really good-I've enjoyed it each time I've been there. Portions are big, prices are fair, and service was good. (it can be spotty)-but I will think long and hard before returning-and certainly before recommending and bringing friends.
