Worst Greek Salad, Great Lamb Sandwich

Went to Snack Taverna two weeks ago with my boyfriend and had the lamb sandwich which was delicious albeit unexpected as it was shredded like pulled pork rather than the typical slices. This afternoon my boyfriend walked to pick up a Greek Salad and I literally took a bite of the cucumber - soggy, then the tomato - mealy, before just throwing it out. I should have known not to order it as it is PRE- MADE! I know this because when I called and asked for the salad without onions, the man on the phone said that that was not possible as it is made in batches in morning. I have no issues with that as some things taste better marinated together. However, as it is the summertime I expected the tomatoes to be fresh and flavorful not mealy, bland and mushy. For $8, I was very disappointed and will not go back.

    always great

I've never written a review before, but i just went to snack (again) last night and decided it was high time to throw some props their way! I've been eating at snack pretty often for the last couple of years and they have yet to disappoint. One of the main draws is that it's quaint, un-pretentious and always consistent, food-wise. Their salads are always fresh and delicious, their cold dips are to die for (especially the skordalia and taramosalata), the hot appetizers are unique and unbelievably flavorful and the entrees cooked to perfection and are very generously portioned (their famous lamb stew and veal meatballs are my faves). It can get filled up pretty quick as they only have 5 2-top tables but if you have to wait, it's well worth it! The service only gets better with time. The waitstaff is friendly, attentive and accommodating and try their best to be nice about the "policies" that they have to enforce on occasion. Compared to some of the other teeny joints in the city this place has a very cool and relaxed vibe. I usually get a piece of baklava to go after my meal because I am entirely too stuffed to move and it's always nice give up seats to other hungry customers! (AND they deliver!)

    One of my ABSOLUTE favorites.

I have to be honest. I get really pumped up about going to Snack... By far one of my favorite little hideaways in the city. Cold "meze" combo platters with pita and your choice of houmus, tzatziki, eggplant, and potato spreads and rockin' homemade grape leaves is the perfect app. All of their dips are extremely flavorful and unique. The Lamb Sandwich is one of my particular favorites. The lamb is fall apart in your mouth tender, and the cumin and tomato spread goes perfectly with it. If you go for dinner, enjoy their Greek wine listing and Imported Greek Beers, as well as a great Entree selection all practically by candle light... And when winter time rolls around, keep in mind... THEIR SOUPS ARE THE BOMB.

    awesome

I love this place! Went there for lunch yesterday, we got lamb sandwiches and the greek salad. The lamb sandwich is amazing and the greek salad was really good. Our waiter was super nice and accomadating. I definetly recommend checking this place out! (And in response to the last post, isn't it more unethical not to tip and to just throw out a perfectly good and uneaten sandwich?)

    So offended

I go to Snack at least once a week, my coworkers & I always order it in as well. Overall, great food, variable service. I'm working late, alone, & just ordered dinner. I had to order more than $10 worth just b/c they have a minimum for deliveries that I was not previously aware of. When the delivery guy came & reached into my purse I realized I didn't have more than a dollar bill for tip. I said, I'm sorry & was going to give him change (coins) & he said not to worry about it. I just got a call from the night manager asking why I didn't give him a tip. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding on her part of what information the delivery guy relayed to him, but quite frankly I'm so offended. Her tone & phrasing was as though she was calling to imply that I'm either poor or cheap of which I am neither! Tips are not required, I give them fairly (20% everytime, service good or bad), the one time I don't have more than a dollar on me for tip I get a phone call from the tip police. I'm so disgusted by her unethical behavior I just threw out my sandwich.

    What happened to Snack?

Went for lunch today after not having been in quite a while. The food was so incredibly mediocre, I couldn't believe it. Started with a greek salad and tzatziki. Salad - tomatoes and cucumbers were soggy and falling apart. Tzatziki had no flavor - no garlic was in there or salt or olive oil by my estimation. Just yogurt and cucumber. Bland. I ordered the keftedakia which were pretty good, nothing great. Lunch mate ordered the chicken sandwich which was completely disappointing. No flavor, chicken was dry. I think I'd even say it was terrible. Used to love this place. What happened?

    Greek Delight

The food here is wonderful. I highly recommend the avgolemono soup. The pies are also great, if they have the cheese pie as a special get it. And I would recommend to tip the appropriate 15-20[%] and not the greek way of 5-10[%] as another user recommended, you should always tip well for quality product.
