Great food - comfortable place ..
We tried Snack Taverna for brunch and had a fantastic time. The food was great definitely get the Greek dips and pita. The pita was so fresh and fluffy and you could taste how fresh all the ingredients are. The servers were so polite and contributed to the great experience. I will definitely return.

What a fantastic place!
I went to Snack Taverna last night with some friends to celebrate a birthday. We live in the West Village and my girlfriend who is Greek said she heard that Taverna was excellent so we gave it a go. Located on a quiet corner of the village, the place had a warm welcoming glow when we arrived, we were seated swiftly at a comfortable table on the banquette. The whole place just had this terrific buzz to it, you could really see that everyone was enjoying themselves and the place just smells great when you walk in the door so when our appetizers arrived, we were good to go! We ordered a bunch of small dishes and shared some entrees which seems to be the way to go there. An amazing Greek salad, the meatballs, spicy and juicy, the shrimp with feta and the calamari with lemon and garlic could not have been better. For entrees we had a whole roasted Branzino which was fileted, and cooked to perfection, the lamb was a must, as I heard they were known for that, served with these amazing zucchini fritters and possibly the best chicken dish I have ever had with chic peas and olives completed our meal. We asked the friendly waiter to choose some wine for us ( a red- name I cant remember) which was delicious and not too expensive either. we finished off the meal with the best rice pudding ( yes, the even remembered the candle) and an excellent baklava! Kudos, Snack Taverna you really have raised the bar!!! This is our favorite new place and we will be back soon!!!

never going back
Came to snack taverna after reading the reviews tinking the food would be great. Food was bad -bland & not very authentic greek / service was rude / restaurant is cramped & noisy. Not my idea of a pleasant night out AT ALL.

Elegant, but not fancy Greek
I love greek food, but have often have wished that the clean fresh flavors of the cuisine were reflected in the atmoshphere and decor of the restaurant in which I was eating. Snack Taverna is great authentic greek food in a cozy (but not too romantic) elegant (but not fancy or fussy) place. The food is very well excecuted with close attention paid to seasoning and presentation. I loved the chicken with chick peas it was jucy and perfect and redolent with herbs. Snack also delivers something other Greek places often dont-- the meat is never overcooked or dry. I had the pork loin and was also impressed. Also great wines by the glass. The service is also very friendly. The only minor critisism is that some of the tables for two are located along a wall next to the bar and the view of the rest of the room and the windows facing the street are obstructed. Also the coat rack next to those tables is not a great touch. But I sat there once and still had a nice quiet meal. Oh, that's another plus-the place is never unbearably noisy.

Finally Great Greek in Manhattan!
After living in Astoria for 2 years, my now-husband was convinced he would never find Greek food in Manhattan that lived up to his expectations, and I was tempted to agree with him. Snack Taverna just proved us wrong. We walked in around 7 PM on a Friday evening and were the only ones in the restaurant. We got a primo table in a quiet corner by the window. Even as the small room filled up, it never got too loud to have a quiet conversation. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, even noticing when the candle on our table went out. We shared the dip platter, lamb triangle appetizer special, saganaki, and moussaka, and everything was just delicious. I usually don't like moussaka all that much because it's so heavy, but Snack Taverna somehow made it a bit lighter and much more refined. We are thrilled to have found amazing Greek food here in Manhattan, and seeing as we now live down the street, we will definitely be back.

Best Greek Restaurant
If Greek food can be gourmet, then this is it. I ate the best greek salad of my life. The tomatos were sweet, the dressing was smooth. Get the fish...the atmosphere is a cute little west village place...great for a first date. My boyfriend and I will be back - we have been telling everyone we know to go!

Cozy, tasty, friendly
I don't think the clientele of your average Bedford St. restaurant is all that warm so I don't know how the staff at Tavrerna Snack stays so nice. But I am grateful that they do. The quarters are close but the vibe is pleasant. Pick the taramasalata over the fava puree. The former is rich and flavorful as can be.
