    Over Rated

As a steak lover I have to say this steak house was very disappointing. I live in New York City and have been to most of the big name steak houses New York has to offer. If I were to compare it to other steak houses, I strongly recommend another restaurant. Especially if you're in the mood for a good, enjoyable and affordable dinner. The steak had no flavor and the vegetables were hard as a rock. This might have something to do with them bringing out my steak literally three minutes after my soup. Try to enjoy the best New York has to offer by attending a different steak house.

    Excellent Steak

Went there for lunch for the first time and really enjoyed myself. Ordered the filet mignon medium and it was perfection...I guess it's true that they really know their steaks (did not put an ounce of steak sauce on it). One of the best filets I've ever had and I’m a meat connoisseur. I highly recommend it, probably more for lunch than dinner!

    Not made for special occasions

The quality/value ratio is just unfair, this place is too expensive for the product. In fact at an average of $45 the plate, you would expect steak perfection (temperature/taste) outstanding service, good time between courses, and a dress code. They did not deliver. We had reservations for our anniversary and arrived all dressed up and ready to celebrate and to our disappointment our table neighbors were in shorts, tennis shoes, kids in flip flops, and a rowdy group of teenagers in crocks. Yes, I know I sound like a snob, but comm'on, it was a special day! In fact, that part of the evening could have been overlooked if the meat had delivered. It wasn't even cooked as asked. and it arrived 5 seconds after we had finished our salads. By the way, good thing Serendipity is nearby, the desserts are a waste of calories. In fact, I've just realized that this is a lunch place for the rich, it is certainly not a special taste for your palate, just your wallet. I've become a steaktheist.

    Thank God for steak sauce

After months of anticipation we finally arrived to S&W. To our disappointment, the food was just good not the jaw-dropping mystical experience they promise to be. I've had better steaks elsewhere. The texture was good, even though my medium filet mignon was medium well. Yet the taste was just not there. I must say that the sides where one of the bests we've had: the onion rings were perfect, and the mushrooms were delicious. Too bad they don't call themselves the Side Cathedral, but the Steak Cathedral. In the end, we thanked God for the great steak sauce (which I usually hate).

I don't understand why this place has such a great reputation. I've had better steaks at a low end restaurant in Oklahoma. These kind of places are overpriced and with slightly above average food. The service was fine, but I know they tried to take advantage of us because they didn't ask what size cut we wanted, they just gave us the bigger cut at the higher price. I'm not stupid and usually just won't return. To best sum it up, it's a chain and a tourist trap. I sort of feel the same way about Morton's, but will say I prefer Morton's over S&W.

Great service, great food, great time!

My boyfriend and I walked in at 8pm on a Friday without a reservation and to my surprise the gentleman at the front door had a seat for us! I highly recommend the lobster cocktail - it's a full 1.5 lb lobster lazy man style over ice for only $20! I had the Filet and it was the largest piece of Filet I've had in a long time and SOO good. My boyfriend had the Colorado Rib Eye which is a bit fatty but very flavorful and also was a massive portion of steak. Creamed spinach is a favorite of mine and the wait staff is extremely knowledgeable of the wine, menu, and even the process behind the food such as aging, preparation, origin, etc. Overall it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Manhattan (and I've been living here for a number of years) - I was pleasantly surprised and recommend it to anyone at anytime. Another plus is that it's not as dark and gloomy as many of the other top steak restaurants in the city.

    Geat Food High Price

Overall my friends and I have had good times, great food and consistantly good experiences here and would recommend it. Food: Steak, sides and dessert were good size and the taste varied from very good to great. Steaks I've had always cooked perfectly. Service: A bit of a wait during peak hours, especially without a reservation. However, reasonably fast turnover and bar is a comfortable wait with fast service. Inside restaurant service is fast and efficient. Waitstaff is very professional. Value: Price is high but relatively reasonable in relation to portion and quality. Atmosphere: Often crowded. Loud, especially when full. Tables pretty crowded together but you're not on top of each other.
