just a south carolina businessman
To me: I've been eating there 27 years. It is without a doubt the best restaurant in NY. That's where I send all my friends when they go to the city. And, they take care of them in a royal fashion. The best marinated steak outside of Argentina.

good food, average ambience
come here for the food, not for the scene!

waste of money
just went to s&w for the first time. i ordered a filet mignon, medium rare, which it was in the middle, yet the outside was totally charred. my boyfriend ordered a sirloin which was much more tender yet both lacked flavor. the creamed spinach tasted like it was out of a frozen container and just heated up in the microwave. total waste of money, never going back

Yummy in Darfur
A great place to dine in order to reward yourself for your contributions to Darfur relief organizations.

great rib eye
No axe to grind either way here. Went as a family of 4 ate in the grill. Pre drinks were expensive $30 for a small beer G and T and 2 soft drinks. Bouquet of seafood was tremendous and great value at $59. Rib eyes were huge and very very good. as wer hash browns. decent bottle of merlot for $30 odd dollars. A very good steakhouse

Hype
This was hands down the worst steak place that I have ever been to. The meat was tough and had no taste at all. Spinach was bitter and dessert was mediocre at best. I don't know what all the hype is about. What a complete waste of money.

Way overpriced for what you get
$80 (including tip) for a meal that I could get at Outback or Texas Steakhouses for 1/4 of the price (and Outback and Texas have better steaks!). I could somewhat rationalize the prize if the food was amazing, but it isn't. My steak was burned both times I went and the sides were no better than Boston Market! I can't believe this restaurant is so popular. I guess some people have more money than they know what to do with. Do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and skip this one.
