    Poor Service

I had eaten in this restaurant more than once. The first time I was there, the manager/waiter went to give us our check and my friend and I told him that we would like to order dessert. He rolled his eyes before taking our order and taking the check back. I was a little taken aback by this, but I figured that he must've had a bad day. This happens. Then a few weeks ago, I was at the restaurant with a friend. She had no cash, so we asked the guy sitting in the front of the cafe if the restaurant took credit cards. The guy said, "Yes, it takes VISA, American Express, etc., etc." We decided to eat there. When we got our check, the manager/waiter didn't let us pay for our meal in credit. Turns out that there was a 20 dollar minimum for credit card. We tried to tell the manager that the guy in the front never told us that there was supposed to be a minimum. The manager got extremely pissed off at us and told us that usually, with two people, the bill would come out to be 20 bucks. But we only ate 14 bucks, as though it was our fault for not ordering enough. I paid for the dinner with the cash that I had. We asked them where the sign was for the 20 dollar minimum and it was on a small slip of paper by the cashier. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. They didn't want to let us know about the 20 dollar minimum so that we would eat there (when it was obvious that it was important for us to pay with credit), and then they made it sound like it was our fault for not ordering enough. As for the food, I ordered chicken over rice and my friend ordered noodles. It was very mediocre.

    Not recommended

The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, but the food is not that great. The "Singapore" name of the restaurant might suggest authentic food. However, after I got the food, I did not like it. There are better Southeast asian restaurants in Chinatown, and I would recommend you NOT eat here. However, the service is good.

Good food and price --nice staff!

We took a group of 34 college students to the cafe and all went smoothly. Everyone liked the food and prices, but what we liked the most was the staff. The staff were very nice, patience and accomodating (we had to move our reservation time twice and they helped us out). The place is small, but still one of the few places with good prices that can fit 35+ people at once and accept cards. We were very pleased with the experience and recommended, especially to big groups visiting the area.

Not quite authentic, but good nevertheless

While this chinatown hodgepodge of thai, chinese, malaysian, and perhaps other foods isn't exactly Singaporean - and many of the dishes are not prepared traditionally - it is still quite good. The service is usually excellent, the food typically arrivals quickly, and in all my time eating there I never had anything that wasn't at least good. The staff is friendly and accomadating, especially of the non-chinese/non-asian community. (Often not the case in Chinatown). The restaurant is also wonderfully clean - a rarity in this part of town.

dont think the food is singaporean

i dont know what singapore food is, but if it is this, its awfully similar to malaysian food and chinese cuisines. theres hainese chicken and various modernized fried dishes. im not sure if thats what singapore food is. the food here was very good, but it was bought by some other people who decided to keep the old menu but add /take away a few things. the hainesse chicken is unappetizing becasue it comes from the kitcehn with the globs of fat on it. disappointing place. the servesr are usually really nice and there when you need them to be, since the place isnt that big. its an okay place to try if you cant get seats at any other restaurants. but it wont be my first choice of dining.

    Not so Singaporen

The restaurant should have a different name in order not to disappoint NYC visitors from the wonderful island. The name "Singapore Cafe" was totally misleading. The food is not authentically Singapore and it tastes more like Chinese take-out. Do not visit the restaurant if you are looking for real Singapore cuisine. The food was decent and clean.

    waste of money

The portions were small, and it far from authentic Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine. We had a lot of food to go because we couldn't finish the dishes we ordered plus it wasn't something I would want to stuff myself with. Ate the food just so we wont be wasting money but I won't go back. I didnt even want to eat the food we brought home. Good service and staff but food is subpar
