My friends who live in Queens have been going to this diner for years so they brought me here on a Saturday afternoon so I could give it a try. What a great find. I am picky about my food because I do a lot of cooking and I can tell you this is good food. I could tell they have a lot of regulars and regulars don't put up with mediocrity. As for the atmosphere, I hope they don't renovate because it feels like old school Manhattan to me and that's just the way I like it. If you want a "yuppie" joint, this isn't it. As for the service, it's good but don't expect your waiter to arrive at your table all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Chances are he will arrive with that great dead-pan face a lot of the old-time NY waiters wear but then again who cares and frankly I think it's appropriate even comical. We were well take care of and foo arrived promptly. If you go, make sure you have dessert. They bake their goods on site and I can tell you the cheesecake I had was the best I have had yet in NYC. So if you want to have a good NYC diner experience, I recommend The Silver Star. Prices are decent and the food is well worth it...believe me.

They are a diner trying be a restaurant and charge restaurant prices. The food isnt even that good. Its not worth it. I could have went to Atlantic Grill for brunch and spent the same amout of money.

Yeah! Live lobsters in a tank on premises, KNOW you're getting a freshie lobster for NYC chump change ~ $27. Why pay more? It's steam + melted butter no one going to do it better. Shucks... Choco-milkshake too close to Burger King after-taste. This diner needs to take the Bryer's ice cream, and blend it. If you want a better milkshake, hit Dunkin Donuts on 65th and 1st, or hit the diner on 1st and 62nd. Breakfast: nice bacon, eggs cooked properly, but make sure you grind it into these guys you want your toast buttered. If I'm gonna butter it myself, tell the cook to invite me into the kitchen. Best grapefruit half I think I've had in my life no sugar required, you hear? OJ is fresh squeezed, yeah! Service: prompt as all hel!, but bean-count the tab as mistakes can happen. If you want some guys and gals to hold a conversation, this is your place. Chock-full-o-regulars too. Price: it's a diner in NYC, only way to get cheaper is to cook yourself, and even that's probably more expensive.

its a diner food, large portions, fresh, the service is ok, (its a diner what do you expect), and although the interior can use a renovation, the place is clean. I have notice a drop-off in number of customers due to their increase of prices do not let that stop you from trying the place, as stated above, Clean, Big Portions and decent service, just know that your normal $30.00 diner dinner for two, can run you $10 more here.

me and my friends had a night out in the city and we went to silver star. My friend had the cheeseburger and she said it was so juicy and tender. I had the chicken parmigiana and the chicken was so tender and soft, it just watered in my mouth. The service was okay, but the restaurant was busy! The prices are okay considering the area and the portions of the meals!

its a diner, and menu is vast. the fish is fresh and prepared however requested. the service is ok, the diner could use a big time refurbishing. the main complaint are the prices. a simple Turkey burger with baked potato shouldn't be $13.00. Plus the rest. raised their prices twice in the past year, not a problem with that, but we didn't know of the price increase until we received our check, the new prices were not reflected on the menus, nor did the host or server mention it to us, and we are regulars in eating in and taking out. if there was another diner nearby, i might try it just because of that.
