Great food at a great price - a gem in Midtown
In midtown Manhattan, many restaurants charge a high price for something you can get elsewhere for much cheaper. Not at Shutters! We stopped there to look at the menu while walking down 34th Street, and the owner came out to invite us in. The prices looked great so we agreed. The food was excellent and served extremely quickly. The only negative aspect was that the waiter seemed rushed and was very gruff, which didn't seem to fit in with the friendly, accommodating attitude of the other waitress or the owner. He was accurate and quick, but we wish he would have been more friendly and used a less clipped tone. We are visitors, but the next time we come, we will definitely be back.

Great Food
After going to the car show at Jacob Javits, my boyfriend and I decided to give Shutters a try. Good thing that we did. The food was good and the owner very friendly.

Delightful surprise
My colleague and I stopped here after attending a convention at the Jacob Javits Center in March 2007. While reading the outside menu, the owner come outside and suggested that we give it a try. We were nicely surprised at the good food. It is not fancy but good. The owner was an enjoyable older gentleman who sat and talked with us for a while. The drawback is that the service is slow, however, we would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Fantastic food, poor service
First let me say that the food here is fantastic. With that said, there were 3 people at the bar and a total of 4 other people dining in the whole place (2 of which were finishing up their meals) but by the way the waiter acted (he was also the bartender) you would have thought the place was packed. Although he did apologize and say that he had no help, we couldn't understand why he needed it. He was abrupt when we were ordering and asking questions about the specials as if we were taking up time that he needed for the other 5 customers. We'll go back and hopefully it will be his night off because the food is fantastic.

Not recommended
Poor diner food with white table clothes. Poor and slow service even though the place was nearly empty.

Home sweet home
Lots of changes is right. But for regulars this little place hasn't changed. This place is Cheers come to life, it's clearly the neighborhood place to hangout, but by the time you leave your no stranger. When you talk to anyone in Shutters (you can't avoid it since it's the friendliest place in New York) they all tell you that they stopped in years ago and have been coming back ever since. The food is great and the menu has anything your in the mood for from classic Italian to chicken wings. The best part is if they don't have it changes are they'll make if for you. The live music makes it even more memorable.
