better sushi found at shop-rite
If you like a lot of white rice and small amounts of fish in your sushi and sushi rolls, this is the place for you. Service was mediocre but the ambience is good.

Not recommended
I placed an order over the phone today for a lunch delivery for 2 sushi/ sashimi lunch specials. I was charged over $40 for my order and when it arrived I only received 1 sushi/ sashimi plates. when I called to complain and have the other half of my order sent over I was told that I was incorrect and that I could NOT have lunch specials delivered so what should have been a $21 special was actually $30! Needless to say they should have specified that over the phone to me and clarified that in the first place. Although they did take blame for not explaining that to me over the phone in the first place. they would not rectify the situation and told me that if I wanted another sushi/ sashimi lunch special I would have to pay $30 for it. Needless to say I will NEVER be ordering from them again

Good lunch bargain
I have been to this restaurant a number of times for lunch on weekdays and weekends. I found most of the dishes consistently good and well priced for lunch. I enjoy the raw fish selection as well as many of its cooked dishes. The only dish I have reservation is the teriyaki--a little too sweet/thick.

Do not believe the great reviews.
The food was subpar and I do not know but can guess who is writing all the great reviews. Oshinko had off flavors. Seaweed salad was subpar and sat on a mayo? dressing. Yellowtail Collar was a little old (fishy). The sushi hand rolls had moist nori and were not very good. Nothing was memorable in a good way. And the bathroom has stained acoustic ceiling tiles and the door is 30% covered in scuff marks.

true to the blue
Anyone who criticize Shimizu's sushi for its quality don't know what they're talking about. They have the best selection of what the Japanese call "hikari-mono," the fishy fish that American palate cannot properly appreciate. Forget tuna (red) or hamachi (white), and go for the wide selection of fresh sardines, aji, samma, kohada, sayori, with the perfect touch of vinegar seasoning.

The review to read - I heart Shimizu
If there is any review to read and believe, this is it. I am a HUGE sushi connoisseur and Shimizu has some of the best quality fish in New York - rivaling Yasuda, Seki, Nobu, Sasabune - but with cheaper prices. My boyfriend and I go weekly and always get the sushi for two. Included in the selections are toro, yellowtail belly and all other specialties not usually offered when you can choose your own. This is the real deal, perfect rice, a dot a wasabi and the freshest fish on top. The sashimi melts in your mouth, and the Uni is superb. But this is a very traditional japanese restaurant - so i'm sure the negative reviews were from people who only eat americanized rolls and frequent low caliber sushi restaurants. We have tried many of the cooked appetizers which are also delicious. The tempura batter is also very light, as it should be. The staff is great and always happy to see us. And most of the clientele is Japanese, so that says it right there.

Worth trying!
It is a japanese owned restaurant, so you know what to expect. The restaurant was clean, food was great and the service was very attentive. A cute place with fresh delicious fish. I will go again! The spicy tuna was so yummy!
