Specially Trinidad & Tobago cuisine. Rice too oily so can't eat the bottommost, uncomfortably hot restaurant so can barely even stand inside when they take 15 mins to serve 1 take-out order, high take out prices especially for this neighborhood & listed at restaurant.com but won't honor any vouchers. Food is pretty good with oxtail & goat curry recommended if you must eat here, avoid white rice though they'll say that's all they have, insist on any other rice.

I grew up in the Caribbean and eat the most amazing Caribbean food. Since moving to NY, I've eaten at many Caribbean restaurants. By far, Shayna's is the best Caribbean food I've ever eaten, even better than my grandma's! I highly recommend the place. The food is always fresh. Shayna's does not serve left overs from the day before. The flavors are amazing. The place is very clean The owner, Joyce, is the sweetest lady. She always has a smile and says to you, "God bless you!". This is a family run business. Sometimes, her husband and children are there helping in the kitchen. Her children are lovely. One of her kids is a lawyer who lives in VA and visits her often just to help and eat her mom's most amazing cooking!

Shayna's is, perhaps, the best roti shop in the area, which, as another reviewer mentioned, is quite a statement. She and her family are super-sweet and the food is simply incredible. So much flavor packed into those enormous roti (you can totally share one) and they're pretty inexpensive to boot. On top of that, they often have homemade beverages (sorrel, irish moss... that they make themselves) that are a step above the sugary stuff you get in most places. Also, Shayna's always working with what's in season or experimenting with some squash curry or something, which is pretty awesome. Oh, yeah, and if you say you like it hot, she'll put some real kick in there (which is great for some folks like me, but other people oughta be warned). If you're in the area and Shayna's is open, you *must* stop in.

We called ahead to make sure Shayna's would be open late tonight and not only did the owner wait for us to arrive, she made fresh roti because she had run out. Three of us split a chicken roti, a shrimp roti, a veggie roti and rice and peas with chicken gravy. Everything was amazing and the tamarind sauce on the veggie roti was superb! Also, the pepper sauce she gave us in separate containers was amazingly delicious and super hot! This place is really worth going to. I have noticed they are not always open though so it's worth it to call ahead and make sure she's open. And when she is, she'll have your food waiting for you when you arrive!

We ordered a chicken roti - it was enough to split between two people for lunch. The roti outside was flakey and freshly made; the chicken was falling off the bone, and the curry was divine. In addition, the staff were lovely and very warm and welcoming. I didn't rate the atmosphere that highly only because there really isn't much in the way of places to sit - only a couple of counter stools. But the roti and the service make up for it. I will return here again and again. In addition, I recommend Shayna's 1000 times over Ram's further down Church toward Flatbush. The roti was good there but not as tasty or as fresh and the service was miserable.

Shayna is incredibly hospitable and makes all the food from scratch right there in the kitchen which you can view. The food is absolutely the best Caribbean in the neighborhood -- which says much given the demographics of Prospect Park South.
