Neighborhood (Unstuffy) Sophistication
If you love wine and a small, intimate space- If you enjoy a neighborhood restaurant, clean food and kind people...if you LOVE WINE...Sharz is a no brainer. Sit at the bar and chat with Stuart (knows his wine) and Julie (sense of humor for days). I recommend the Renacer Punto Final Reserva 2005- a Malbec that is amazing! I had a Valentine's Day to remember here last night. Cannot wait to go back. A FIND!

The Upper East's hidden Gem
If you live in or near the upper east side you must check out Sharz restaurant. One of the few quality restaurants in the neighborhood open for lunch and the lunch special menu is the best value meal you will find in the area. Drawbacks are its small so you need to make reservations for dinner but if this most welcoming of establishments was located in mid town you would pay double to triple the price. Of course if it were in mid town it would not have the family run appeal that Sharz enjoys. The owner has created an outstanding wine selection and amazingly will open any bottle on the menu so you can enjoy any wine by the glass, I think this unique in New York. Menu suggestions; the Chicken Milanese is great but if you visit go for the New Zealand rack of lamb which was amongst the best I have ever tasted. In essence a great experience, great value, outstanding quality wines very sensibly priced (perhaps underpriced?) but above all its one of the most hospitable restaurants in New York.

Mediocre at best
The food is okay for the price, but only if you get the early bird special (with the wine). The wait staff is good but the owner is unpleasant and detracts from the experience.

Red cabbage dreams
Ten years ago, I lived a block away from Sharz old home on 90th. I moved. They moved. The years passed. But damn, I still hanker after their warm red cabbage salad with goat cheese. Soooooooo good. Even better when they would throw in the occaisional caper. Yum. And hard to get! They kept moving it on and off the menu. Argggh! Just keep it on the damn menu! And I just checked --Nooooooo! It's not there! So now my parents want some help finding good restaurants in the 'nabe. So here's the deal -- the warm red cabbage salad w/ goat cheese goes back on the menu, or no recommendation. Ha! I'll be watching... So you, John and Jane Q. Public: when you go into Sharz, demand the warm red cabbage salad with goat cheese. Insist! Make a scene! Throw crockery! This may seem like a lot to ask, but believe me, the reward will be worth it. Oh yeah, check it out: they also have the best painting of a monkey wearing a top hat in NY.

Don't Miss This Restaurant!
Sharz's food is absolutely amazing! They for sure have some of the best food in town. I ordered delivery after learning about the restaurant and I was not disappointed! The food is as advertised, so if you have a chance, try Sharz. You will not be disappointed.

Slow cooking
Consistently slow service mars an otherwise OK experience. Our party of three waited almost 50 minutes for orders. I was warned about this, but experienced it last week for ourselves.

Remember ... they deliver!
i've been a fan since they took over the failing italian place behind the Vic on 89th street...but smart...they kept the same phone number...so all us delivery addicts had a huge edge! but if you want the 'good' bread, you gotta go to the restaurant yourself.
