Poor service
I've been living in NY for the last 4 years and I have to say this was the poorest culinary experience so far. I went there for dinner on a weekday with a bunch of friends. Service was lousy. The waiter was quite forgetful, he brought 2 glasses with lipstick marks, but most importantly, he was very rude. He told us that the sushi bar would be closing so it was time to make last calls. We ordered 4 rolls, he only brought 3 and when we asked him for the missing one he didn't acknowledge his mistake and said that it was closed. He immediately brought the check and was buzzing around the table like a bumblebee, waiting for us to pay.Because of the lousy service we gave him 10% tip only. He checked the tip in front us, asked for more, and when we refused he recommended we go to a chain restaurant next time. We asked to talk to the manager and he said he was the manager.

Great food
great food, I love the salad with the ginger dressing, best ginger dressing in NYC and it's homemade! Miso Soup is also great, sushi just as great! Manager is cool as well. 2 thumbs up!!

excellent!
Second visit for me to this restaurant and I'm not dissapointed. We ate at the sushibar and they gave us complementary appetisers as it was the end of the day and they weren't gonna serve it the next day. It was simply delicious and frech. The sushis were to die for and my standards are high. I'll definitly go back

Pretty good
It was a pretty good experience for me. The food was very nice, and the price was reasonable. The service was decent, too.

Poor first impression
I went there for the first time and had a disappointing experience. We waited for a really long time for our food come and the service wasn't too nice. The food that eventually came was good though. When the bill came, I gave little less than 15% because I felt the service wasn't up to it, but the waiter actually came up and demanded a 15-20% tip! I was quite shocked and upset by his actions. There isn't a law for how much I tip and I do tip quite generously for good service, but not bad ones.

would not go anywhere else in manhattan
I have been coming to this restaurant for 10 years. I do not know who wrote these negative reviews, but you have to be kidding me. I have brought the CEO and General Counsel of two Fortune 100 companies here, saying it was an "unknown place that REAL new yorkers go to." They thought it was amazing. The food is delicious, the avocado is always superb, and the tuna is top quality. (Get the village jumbo sushi). The people watching cannot be beat. Yes, the service can sometimes be wanting, but it's not nobu. But the sushi quality is simply fantastic -- especially considering the price. The place is INEXPENSIVE. (not cheap). High quality at a ridiculous price. Dinner for 6 people - everyone was stuffed and thought it was the greatest meal ever, came to 180 - including alcohol. And the hipster from Brooklyn took enough food home with him to last him two days worth of dinners. This is my go-to restaurant, period. Have been going here for a decade, and never going to stop. I have never submitted a review on a site like this before, but seeing the crappy reviews raised my ire. Do not screw with my sharaku!
