Bland at best
Me and my Gf ordered take out from them tonight, every item ordered was bland, the chicken and beef were both dryer than dust, the vegetable dish was ok, and the chutneys were extremely watery. the worst part was the banana pakoras which turned out to be huge balls of dough with a tic-tac sized piece of banana at the center. save your money and order else where.

Takeout
I ordered takeout from Shamrat last night, and was very upset by the quality. The chicken korma wasn't bad, but the chicken, shrimp, and sausage in the mixed grill were flavorless and dessicated. The mint and tamarind sauces were watered down to the point of ridiculousness - do they not think that we're going to notice something like that? The lentils were watered down too. Overall, this was simply awful. The amiable delivery man got to our door pretty quickly, but who wants fast service when the food is atrocious? There are MUCH better options in the area - one simply has to glance across the street or down the block to find much more competent Indian cooking.

Good value
Granted it's not the best Indian food I've ever had (far from it) but it's more than acceptable for the price. Their lunch special includes an appetizer, bread and dessert along with the entree. It's a ton of food for a very low price. Not bad at all.

Skip this place
We ordered from this place last night, and though it arrived quickly in under 30 minutes, it was really abysmal. We had chicken tikka masala which had no spice or flavor, sauce tasted like oily ketchup. The cheese Naan was made with American cheese. Samosas were ok. I would definitely not recommend this place and will continue to look for a good place to get Indian take-out on the upper east side.

Take out- Not recommended
I ordered take out and was quite disappointing when I tried the food. I am not a specialist but eat quite a bit of indian food. The 2 dishes I ordered from there were almost tasteless and if an indian dish is tasteless, this means its not good. There were no spices what so ever. If i had made veggie stew home would have more spice to it than the veggie dish I got. Another thing I did not like from this place was the size of the portions-they were small. For a total of $$$ spent- the food was barely enough. I won't order from this place again.

Good value for decent Indian food
My wife and I ordered the chicken vindaloo and the shrimp malai. Granted that we live 4 blocks away, the delivery came in at an amazing 15 minutes. Unlike many other UES indian places, the vindaloo was actually spicy and flavorful. The malai was adequately sweet and went with the naan. We were happily surprised after many disappointing incidents of bland and watery Indian food of the UES. You're not going to get Jackson Heights quality indian food, but for the relatively cheap prices, this is the place to go if you're in the UES. We didn't dine in so we can't comment on the 'atmosphere' and 'service.' We're definitely ordering from here again, and eyeing their lunch specials also.
