    Whine with your burger?

I am afraid I take exception with the reviewer below who says the whining never stops. For one thing, this is not nearly as cheap as McDonalds (though not expensive.) For another thing, "served quickly" are 2 words that never apply to this place because the crowds gather. I wound counter that indeed! I have a life! And I should NOT wish to spend it waiting in line for a burger!!!!!

    they're great!

they are simply great burgers! they are not huge burgers, they are not fancy, the lines can be ridiculous (i don't go there when the lines are mad crazy), but they are delicious! every time! consistently great burgers. the fries and shakes are also very good.

    What is the draw?

A long line, then a long wait for a pretty small, salty burger. I really don't get it...

    The Whining Never Stops

For a couple dollars more than a Big Mac you get a delicious all beef hamburger, served quickly by friendly employees. You get to eat it in a beautiful, clean park and the owner donates all profits to a good cause. Still many people aren't happy. Get a life people !

    let's be honest here...

the 'best burger in nyc'? come on folks, you're not trying to get your comments into zagat's okay? it's a decent burger...a bit thin which is why they even offer a double...and you shouldn't cook thin patties medium because they come out too hard...and they over-season the patties too...think about how much is too much pepper and salt the next time (if there is a next time) you try to burger...it's one step away from being a 'blackened' burger with the pepper and salt encrustacean...the crinkle cut fries a reminiscent of high school fries...so plusses for the walk down memory lane - overall fair fries...the cheese for the fries is pretty good...much better than it looks...the ice cream concoctions are pretty good...but i suspect the deceptively average burger is just a draw for the higher margin items...

Really up to you if it is worth it

I went last Saturday night. There was an extremely long line (mostly 20 somethings) ahead of me. I would say 50-60 people. My date and I had the time to wait, so we decided since it was a nice evening to stick it out. This was more than the girl in front of me could manage - after teetering in line in stiletto heels, she wobbled off, hungry, and in pain. 40 or so minutes in I ordered. I had the Shack Burger, which comes fully garnished and with sauce, cheese fries, and a beer. Once you order you are given a beeper and are alerted when the food is ready. Mine took nearly 20 minutes. I have to say, it was delicious. The burger was moist and flavorful although I could not detect any sauce. The cheese fries were also a surprise. They had "pump cheese" a la 7-11 nachos on them. At first glance I thought "miiistake!!" but then I tasted the cheese. It was real! Not Velveeta - more like Fondue Cheese. Tasty. The fries were also crispy but I make a personal point deduction because they were Krinkle Cut which screams Ore-Ida to me. I like shoe strings. But hey that's just me. It was overcrowded, so my date and I sat on a bench off the square nearby. This was pleasant because it afforded us a view of the Empire State building, though I was concerned about the beer outside the limits of the restuarant grounds. Worth it? Maybe on a nice night to try it if you never have. After that it is purely subjective. I have excellent burgers delivered to my midtown home as well...

i waited how long for what?

After waiting I think over 90 mins (which included what seemed like 30 mins even after ordering), perhaps my apatite expired or perhaps it was just not that great, but I've had a much better hamburger. There wasn't that much flavour in the meat. I was however pleased that the price wasn't that bad, especially compared to that of The Burger Joint on 57th, which I would recommend over this place any day...
