On a nice day the wait is 45 minutes to place your order and then another 15 to get it. That said, the shack burger and fries were so delicious you almost forget your lost time. The advice is: know how to entertain yourself. Most people stand with friends and talk, I decided to treat myself to one of their ice creams (that line is much shorter) and that helped pass the time. Try their frozen concretes. I didn't like the chicken apple sausages at all. I'll stick with the amazing burgers.

I'll give, the shack burger is good. It's about the same as The Burger Joint. But noway is it worth waiting in line for. Not even 15min, much less over an hour. Remember, it takes another 15min to serve your order. Just another over hyped NYC restaurant.

Ok, as a New Yorker born and bred, I have a problem with these kind of over-hyped Magnolia-style places. That said, I tried Shake Shack with 2 friends who were dying to go and in a moment of weakness I gave in and stood on a line that was 50 deep. After about 45 minutes standing with the pigeons and squirrels waiting to order, we did. I was surprised they sold beer and wine too, pretty cool that you can do that in a park. I ordered a shakeburger with fries, a beer, and a custard. WOW - I don't know how they do it but it is the best burger I think I have ever had. Ever. Seriously. The fries were good, the frozen custard pretty amazing, but the shakeshack burger is the thing dreams are made of! I still think about it...and yes I know that's unnatural. I like that there is a line and it's an overhyped restaurant experience because otherwise I would find myself stopping by every day and I'd probably be 20 lbs heavier...

Okay, I haven't tried all of the so-called best burgers in New York. But I have had Goodburger, Five Guys, and JG Melons, among others, and let me just say that Shake Shack blows all of these out of the water. Believe the hype, it is that good. The burgers are the smallish, LA-style types on a warm buttery bun with their special sauce get a side of cheese fries, and a beer or a shake and you have the perfect spring lunch in the park, and it's not even that expensive, Manhattan location considered. Get there either around noon or after three on the weekends to avoid the incredibly long lines. Even if you have to wait, though, it is well worth it. Honestly, Shake Shack is the best burger this side of In N' Out. Believe it.

I was walking home early afternoon yesterday through Madison Square Park, noticied there was only one person on line (it was sort of cold, after all) and finally decided to see what the fuss is all about. Ten minutes later I had my food. The few tables with heaters were taken, but I did find a seat in the sun. The shake burger was something of a mistake for me, because I was reminded of why I don't like American cheese. If I go again I'll have the plain version. But the burger was tasty, though the meat was a little tough. It's not meant to be a trendy gourmet burger, but is of the Good Old American Hamburger variety. Quality-wise it is on a par with a very good diner. I liked the wax-paper sleeve, which prevented me from making too much of a mess of myself. The fries were quite good. To sum it up, if I'm in the vicinity and there's no major line, I'll go there again. But it's certainly not worth travelling for, or waiting 45 mintutes for.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Went again this past weekend, sat under one of those outdoor heaters. Boyfriend and I heart this place and always have a good meal. Worth the wait.

well after receiving flak for being a longtime new yorker and never having tried the shake shack, i walked past on a weekday on the way to returning my cable box and noticed there was a 5 minute line! since i have never been a fan of the long wait i decided that it was now or never. i ordered a shack burger (which is medium burger with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and their special sauce) and a coke. about 10 minutes later my buzzer thing went off and i picked up my meal. the burger was indeed tasty - the meat was cooked medium wellish and the bun was soft and buttery. i did spend a good amount of bites wondering what this special sauce was. in the end i left feeling glad i only waited for 15 minutes.
