This place would be fantastic if only they didn't overcook the burgers. The default cook here is medium well to well done. I prefer medium rare, but I would be perfectly satisfied with just medium. If you ask for medium, though, they will tell you that is how they cook it, and you will likely get medium well. If you ask for medium rare, you will get rare to raw. The fries are great, though.

Before I went there I always saw a long line and wondered what the hype was about. I finally went and had a burger and cheese fries and they were excellent!! Well worth the wait. I have been there several times and introduced some of my co-workers and they all love it to!

After the hype comes the backlash, and the arrivals of look-down-their-noses who hate a winner. How predictable. Fantastic burgers that are just the right size, even-better shakes. Do you have to wait at line, particularly at lunch? Yes. Is it chaotic a lot of the time? Yes. Welcome to life in New York City. Is it worth it? Hell yes. I'd stand on line in February and eat Double Shacks in the snow if it were possible.

Yesterday, 9/19/05, I went for the 3rd time to Shake Shack. This time with my visiting parents. Every. Single. Time. I go there my food (the Chicago Dog) is subpar. The time before yesterday it was cool when it got to me. And yesterday, what happens? My friggin bun is so hard - nice and stale. And why did I go? Because my girlfriend wanted my parents to experience a good NY hotdog. We waited 35 minutes in line - I felt foolish because I just knew they would let me down and they didn't fail. There is nothing so outstanding about this food that it's worth waiting in that line for. I had to get a beer just to slow my burn after spending $36 on food that I could have gotten off the street and probably tasted better.

Let's face it: most of the people waiting in line for a burger here would never bother to read one of these reviews. So this review is for the rest of us. The shakes are great, I'll grant you. But not so great that they are worth waiting 40 minutes for! I could literally go to the store, buy the ingredients, and make a better one at home in the amount of time it takes to get one at the Shack! And as for the "juiciest burger I have ever had" -- whoever said that ought to get out more. Try fast food chain burgers that are just a few feet away. That juice is from fat.

Hands down the best burger in NYC. Super juicy and well seasoned. Awesome! And cheap. The cheese fries are great too but get your own - too small to share. Was less psyched about the shakes. Got a black and white and it was just ok. Cannot wait to come back for the burgers though. Yum yum!

OK, so this place has the juciest burgers...love that damn shack burger....they make everything to order so it's all fresh and specially made for you. The shake is an experience and they have the best flavors...CARAMEL! That's all I'm going to say. For the summer this a such a cute place to go and just hang. they even have wine people! I'm sure than even when it's cold outside, I'll want to get my butt over to get some of those burgers....yummmm.
