Perfect Backyard Burger
I have been here twice since moving to NYC. Very local lunch crowd. The burger is a flavorful, juicy burger, no frills - just great taste. I think they are a combo of ground brisket and sirloin (?) and the bun is amazingly fresh. The shakes are very good, too. Expect to wait in a long line if you go at prime lunch hours, but it is worth the wait. DO not even think of making the same mistake I did and ordering the Chicago style hot dog. I love Chicago style hot dogs, so I knew what to expect, but this was not to my liking. Bright, artificial-looking, green relish, a dry poppy seed bun...just too gross to even finish eating it. You would think that Danny Meyer could create something better than this pathetic version of a Chicago Style dog. Skip the fries - they are like frozen rest stop fries. Good thing their burgers are SO good...I am definitely hooked!

Shakes?
This shake tastes artificial- They should get real-tasting chocolate and maybe some hard served ice cream- Don't recommend it.

Boring hamburger and fries
On a nice evening, it's quite pleasant to dine al fresco in Madison Square Park. The Shake Shack provides seating, and if you prefer, there are park benches nearby. But the food is overpriced and overrated. The hambergers are small and don't have much flavor. I was told by a friend that it's excellent quality, lean beef. Maybe that's the problem. Hambergers need a bit of fat and should be juicier than the only-slightly-larger-than-White Castle slabs served here (though you can get double burgers, at a premium price). The fries are standard crinkle-cut, might as well be from the frozen food section. But the shakes are great.

Loved It!
After waiting in line for 30 minutes...and waiting for our food for almost 20.... I would have to say... IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT! The Shack Sauce is Awesome...make sure you atleast get it on the side... I would have to say...it was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten.... Just be prepared to wait...and if you have patience.... I promise it's worth it!

Good burger
I've been a couple of times and this is a very good burger. You see a lot of posts saying this is the best burger and sometimes that this is a very overrated burger etc etc. Burgers are like pizzas - there is a high degree of variability to each person's tastes. What few will disagree with is the quality of meat, fresh, not frozen and I believe is ground sirloin. The patty is of medium thickness, and it seems from people I've talked to here in NY many people like super thick patties, not my style. That said the patty was thin enough for me. It was juicy, and the bun was nice and soft. Overall it was a very good burger for my tastes. The french fries are not at the same level. They are those crinkle cut fries that you can get at the grocery. I much prefer fries from say Azul (LES) or Spotted Pig, but those are places where you'll easily drop 50 per person with wine, but there a lot of places that have better fries but these are certainly passable. Overall a very good burger in a great setting, just go early or late. I went last night (Sunday) at 9:30 and there was maybe a 5 minute wait.

Shake Shack
This is NOT the best burger in the city. There's several places that give you a better burger and for a lot less money. I was aware of the waiting time of 45 minutes so I'll give that a pass, everyone knows about it.. However, the burger has a good consistency meaning it stuck together, but the flavor is subpar. The shakes (I got the chocolate shake) tasted like a fastfood shake with extra syrup, ack. A good place to meet your friends because you'll have lots of time to chit chat while waiting in line.
