    Mystery Solved

Have been passing this place for a couple of years now, often seeing lines out the door, and have wondered how good the burgers had to be to draw crowds like that. Finally last night, I decided to see for myself. Went in late, on a rainy Sunday night. No crowds, no line, a couple of people waiting to pick up orders. Walked right up to the register and ordered a Shack Stack, fries, and a shake (total just under $18). The service was friendly enough, and the kitchen was obviously not understaffed, but I'm still trying to figure out why it took a good 15 minutes to get my order together. If it took 15 minutes last night given the lack of traffic, then I can begin to understand the lines out the door in summer with 50 people waiting to place orders. Something just isn't working right in the kitchen. Mystery of the lines solved. The food itself was not bad, but not my style of burger. I will also say that it was very fresh, which might account for the 15-minute wait. I didn't ask about customizing, but their standard product (with whatever Shack Sauce is) was completely ordinary. I'm not sure what kind of cheese they used, but when combined with the Shack Sauce, it came oozing out in big gooey clumps reminiscent of Cheese Whiz--not what I want to see on my burger, ever, under any conditions. The fries were likewise completely edible, but nothing special. In fact, they reminded me of high school cafeteria french fries. At $2.65, they weren't a terrible value, but then again they weren't anything I'd go back for either. Addictive? Hardly. (Also, onion rings-- ever hear of 'em Shake Shack?) The $5.00 shake? No better no worse than shakes elsewhere. I might pay more for a better shake, but I won't pay $5.00 for one of these again. To summarize, everything about my order was completely ordinary, neither addictively good, nor inedibly bad. But for the $, not a great value proposition. My down-the-street diner does a much better product, completely customized to my preference, for about the same $. Now I know.

Simple things could make this a lot better

I live a block away from Shake Shack and generally like their food. I don't mind the lines and agree the vibe of the place is pretty cool. It's expensive for what you get, but even that is something I can overlook. That all said, I'm consistently disappointed in two things: (1) the slow, lazy service I seem to get when I visit and (2) the inability of the staff to provide frozen custard, or any type of frozen dessert, rather than ice cream soup. With regard to the service, several of the cashiers seem to treat their jobs more like a social hour than a work environment, which causes unnecessary waiting and repeating orders. It takes excessively long to get a sample of the custard of the day. I don't understand what takes so long to grab a teaspoon of custard. There also seems to be confusion over "to stay" or "to go", and packaging an order to go seems to require multiple trips to the back for various size bags, lids, boxes and so forth. On the melted ice cream, I don't know what the issue is. Perhaps the machines aren't freezing the ice cream enough. Perhaps my ice cream order gets prepared and then sits in the hot kitchen long enough to melt before it gets to me. Perhaps the staff can't keep up with ice cream production enough to get it really frozen before they start dishing it out. I don't know, but it's annoying to pay $4 for a sticky mess that you basically need a straw to eat. Shake Shack does such a good, organized job of so many things. I don't get why simple stuff like this gets overlooked. The issues I highlight have been a problem for this location for at least the last 2 years. After enduring it all again tonight, I decided to submit this review in the hope that someone at the Shack will read it and make the necessary changes.

    A damn good burger

This is a tasty little burger for people trying to watch their portion size but still want delicious flavor. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a gourmet burger topped with an egg or avocado or gruyere cheese but when I want cheap, satisfying, and simple- this is my go to place. Not only are the burgers moist and tender but the shack sauce is also a great, tangy addition. The single burger is definitely tiny but my fiance and I usually split the shack-cago dog also, which is refreshing and light. I don't love the line or the seating situation but they're worth it when you have a craving for this food, which we often do.

    shake shack is wack!

This place is highly overrated and over priced. Small burgers and just ok fries do not make up for the long wait and lack of seating at this location. very disappointed!
