Slow service, strange uncomfortable seating, a dank smell in lower room all detracted from some fairly good food and average wine. The music was bizarre and the front room incredibly cramped and noisy. Completely overrated and disappointing under any circumstances but particularly after having to go to great lengths to get a reservation to eat in my own neighborhood.

Service was pleasant, but slow. It took ten minutes just to get water, twenty for our drinks. The waiter knew little about the wine and had to ask another waiter what a sunchoke was. Bread is as good as everyone says in their reviews, but we had to wait twenty minutes until it appeared. The appetizers were wonderful: the spaghetti with braised duck was as good a pasta dish as I have ever had. But my chicken al mattone (chicken under a brick) was so salty that I had to send it back (I've only done this two or three times in my life) after three or four bites because my mouth began to tingle, and since it had take so long at that point I declined a substitute. Instead of the waiter, a busboy brought a macarpone dessert, telling us it compliments of the chef, which turned out to be an empty gesture since none of us at the table like mascarpone. They should have just comped us on a dessert or asked us to choose something. Then it took twenty minutes to get the check. All in all, good food, mediocre service, medium wine list of about 15 good whites and 15 good reds. For the price, not worth it.

I took my friend here for her birthday and was disappointed. Most of the seating for 2 is at a table for 4 with another couple, as was ours. Nothing to look at. For 2 drinks, a split fish entree, 1 veg , a split rissotto (too rich and creamy, and not that good) & split dessert the bill was almost $130, before tip. Nothing was like waiter described. Food was not special at all. Definitely will not go back.

The menu at Sfoglia changes about every 2 months and I have never been disappointed. The space is small, but reminds me of a small restaurant you would find in Italy. I would consider it homey rather than uncomfortable. The bread is made daily and on sight. Sometimes it's almost too hot to even touch when it's brought to your table (not complaining!) The pastas are always delicious, as well as the daily frittata specials. Try the chicken al mattone (under a brick) which is supposed to be great as all. Prices are reasonable considering the neighborhood that the restaurant is in.

I had the antipasto which had three great surprises: Chicken liver pate - excellent, spaghetti squash - out of this world, and a terrific goat cheese tart. The special of the day was prawns in a saffron broth with fried capers. This was excellent, as was the homemade pastas, bread, and bread pudding. I loved this place, and will definitely go again. This is a great place to go and linger over dinner. You are never rushed, and the service is terrific.

I had heard such great things, but was a bit underwhelmed. Shafted to a table in the very back, the high chairs were an uncomfortable combination with the very low table. The olives on the table, our bottle of wine and stuffed pepper appetizer were the highlights of the meal. The pasta entrees were average and very different to how the waiter described them. If you want a romantic candle lit dinner, with little distraction and or attention, try it (definitely ask to sit in the front of the restaurant).

The recent reviews here are crazy. I've been dining at Sfoglia since it opened and I don't think it's going downhill. Actually, I think the food has been especially delicious the past 2-3 times I've been there. I recommend the antipasti (it changes daily and is always a sure bet), the gnocchi, the melon spaghetti and the chicken. Save room for dessert! Yes, the reservation system is annoying and the place is pricey, but the food makes up for it.
