My friend & I recently visited the city and wanted to try this restaurant after seeing it mentioned in various magazines. The atmosphere is nice, sort of Victorian style with weathered tables & chairs. However, we weren't too impressed with the food. Ordered the frozen hot chocolate which was rather bitter and the whipped topping was extremely waxy and tasteless. We split a chicken salad sandwich which had large chunks of chicken and celery but it was so bland, we had to sprinkle lots of salt & pepper to get any flavor. I think the dressing on it must have been plain yogurt. Yuk! Our bill came to over $30. We don't plan on returning. A restaurant of this size that holds about 65 people should have more than one bathroom stall. The bathroom stall is about 3'X3' and the sink area is even smaller. If you happen to be a "large" person you won't even fit.

Everyone makes a huge deal out of Serendipity 3.. and in a way, there's reason to. It's cute, the atmosphere is nice and cozy. Their dessert simply spectacular (Forbidden Broadway Sundae, amazing). However, the downside is that their food isn't really all that and the long wait really is a huge turn off. Their service is okay, depending on who you get. The prices are high. It's one of those places that you'll have fun going to but you need to really plan your visit. (you need to get there on time and figure out exactly how many are going, not exactly allowing for spontaneity.) It's not one of those places that you'd keep coming back to often..It's a touristy or date, thing to do. But go anyway, just to try their dessert and brag about having gone.

Serendipity has the BEST sundaes and deserts, but its service is unbelievable. It took so long just to get a salad and a sundae, and even though the food is great, it was not worth the wait. It is very busy, and if you like the bustling atmosphere I guarantee that you'll love the food!

I've been to Serendipity many times, mostly on birthdays and special occasions, but the last time the service was so slow (we waited to order for half an hour) that my friends and i just got up and left and got more bang for our buck from the CPK next door, just as good food. Serendipity is only good for the frozen hot chocolates and the kitschy atmosphere.

While the setting is inviting, the majority of the seats are rather cramped and uncomfortable. Be sure to be seated towards the back if possible. The meals are mediocre, not gross- but nothing to write home about. The desserts however are very disappointing. You will leave wondering what the hoopla is about. The consistency of the ice cream was watery yet at the same time pasty and overwhelming. Not as many toppings options as there should be for a place known for their desserts. Serendipity is all about ambience -- leave your taste buds at home.

My date and I came here b/c of the movie. We hadn't made reservations so the wait was about an hour but that was okay as we just came for desert. We had their "famous" frozen hot chocolate and something with cherries in the title. . .I can't recall exactly. Both were good. If you've never been, I would recommend going for the dessert. The food seemed overpriced for such simple plates so we went elsewhere for dinner. I don't think I'll be going there again unless we have to guests who want to see the place. Long wait, expensive food, average service not worth the good but not great desserts.

My husband took me here for my birthday and we def had a pleasurable experience. The food was good and the desserts were to die for. We had reservations made for a Tuesday night, and it was a good thing. The wait for those without reservations was an hour and a half. The service was fine, no one rushed us at all. For dessert, I had the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate...and my husband had the peanut butter Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. Both were amazing! One is plenty for two. If you can't finish it, feel free to ask them to "wrap it up" and they will put it in a carry out cup. All in all, I think this a great place to go for dessert. Don't forget to make reservations to get ahead of the tourists.
