I'm new to New York by about a month, and last night my friends and I went to Serendipity to celebrate a birthday. It was all of our first times attending the restaurant. It was all that I hoped it would be. We had reservations, which I highly recommend, so we got seated quickly, our server was fantastic, and the food was fab. The "real" food really was good, and the portions were perfect in order to leave room for desert--the desert was the best--FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE is a must. It's definitly not some place I could go once a week because of the price, but the splurge once every couple of months seems totally reasonable.

The ups obviously being their renowned Frozen Drinks, and out of those, clearly the Frozen Hot Chocolate. I happened to order the Frozen Pineapple Lime which came in a portion just as large and overflowing. They were both heavenly and for the price, it was definitely a great deal. We didn't have to wait long for the table, but once seated, it took maybe an hour for the food to come. The food portions were certainly tiny and the foot long hot dog was not quit there, to say the least. I don't remember the waiter coming once during the whole meal. The decor was not as impressive as a place with so much caliber. If they intend it to be a dessert parlor, then I guess I would have to treat it as such. I would only go back for more of their wonderful desserts, the Outrageous Banana Split being my next target.

We went there for dessert to try there famous hot chocolate, and we went around noon, we did have a 1 1/2 hr. wait, but it was definitely worth it....we ended up getting lunch also, there hamburgers were the best I had in new york! And the hot chocolate was AWESOME! It is definitely not just ice cream and chocolate milk! It is definitely frozen hot chocolate....you should make reservations, they said they don't take reservations for dessert, just dinner and lunch, but they don't check.....and the wait staff was great, very friendly and speedy considering the crowds...

We stopped by and had dessert and coffee. The Cheesecake was the best that I had in NYC. My wifes apple crumb pie w/ ice cream was very good! We are planning on a return trip this June.

Went in February 2005. The food was some of the best we have had in New York. I dream of having another burger there. Desserts to die for. Cannot understand negative reviews on the food . It was quiet when we went probably because it was raining hard that day.

Many People, long wait. Mediocre food that is not worth the wait or value. Well, it is a famous place and you can go home and say you did it, but if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't go.

First I would just say, when you go to NYC yes your going to expect quick service however, it may be a long wait to be seated but they never make you feel rushed to leave. The food was pretty good couldn't complain about that. Yes it's alittle small inside but theres so much to look at and see. Along w/ the many trinkets and vintage props....there are celebrities that may stop by as well. That should say alittle something about the place as well. Honestly I loved it. People are nice and the service was good....just be alittle patient, what's the rush.
