This place is a must, just for sitting among the thousands of dollars of antique Tiffany Lamps. Go with an empty stomach and a full wallet (we spent $45 for two), split a frrozen hot chocolate. Make a reservation and ask for the front room. Definitely worth going. Know that you will be among tourists and wait in line for the ladies room. The story of the restaurant isn't printed anywhere you can take it home to scrapbook, but the story is magical, and so is sitting in this enchanting place. My 13 year old loved it, and we took home lots of leftovers! The host was rude, but our waiter was awesome. Even with a line down the block, we never felt rushed. The food was hot and delicious. I had the chocolate french toast (very rich), and daughter chose the sandwich called the Summer Bries -- Turkey with sprouts, apple slices and brie, on pumpernickel raisin bread. Sandwich came with a baby greens salad. Fries were $3 extra. They looked awful, but tasted delicious! The food was very good.

Serendipity is a teeny tiny place. I half expected to see some Keebler elves walking around. But the quirky and colorful restaurant makes up for size. The frozen hot chocolate is DELICIOUS. 8 chocolates blended into a rich drink, nice. The pepper sausage omelet was not good. The sausage was overcooked, and hard, ouch. The short wait (because we made a reservation), delicious frozen hot chocolate, and adorable giant menus made the trip memorable. I may be coming back for some frozen hot chocolate. They taste rich and delicious. All in all, delicious frozen hot chocolate and cute but small venue.

Well you wil have to make a reservation (have to get real food if you do, no dessert-only reserves) weeks, or months in advance, especially for weekends during the summer. This IS a tourist trap. I made a reservation and they didn't mark it in, so I wound up waiting, but you'll probably wait even with a reservation. Once you get seated though, it's great. Good waitstaff, and the portions are generous (they had better be for the price!) Sandwiches are best and definitely split the "can't say no" with someone. You'll leave full; walk it off in Central Park. Overall not bad, but really touristy. Even if you are from NYC, expect that detached attitude and long wait at the front.

We went yesterday with my two children. It is sorry when a place becomes so popular they don’t have to worry about the way they treat people. I will say the dessert was fabulous. The frozen hot chocolate is a must. Being a Father of two, I would say this was not a kid friendly restaurant. It would be good for a date or teenagers.

I've been to Serendipity at least a half dozen times. I take family there everytime they come to visit. The restaurant is always busy. I've been lucky a couple times and got a table right away, but prepare to wait. The Forbidden Broadway Sundae is for anyone who wants a chocolate overload. It's their best dessert in my book. The price point is high, but it is enough for 2 people to enjoy. I wouldn't recommend getting it for yourself, unless you want to go into a sugar coma. The waitstaff I have encountered have been enjoyable. It's definitely a place you want to visit on a trip to NYC.

I went on 27th Dec 05 and the wait was 2 hours when I arrived at 11.40am. I was told that this is the busiest time of year and so I went shopping in Bloomingdales for 2 hours. When I arrived back it was chaos. The people taking names were unprofessional and disinterested. When we were seated, the waiter was great and the food excellent, of course the Frrrrozen hot choc was the best and NOT overrated at all.

I do believe that this was the greatest meal that my lips have ever come into contact with. I have a very selective taste and the food was mind boggling. The "Frozen Hot Chocolate" was music to my palatte! I highly recommend this "sanctuary of food" to all that wish for a good taste on their tongue.
