    Some Advice

As a resident of NYC, I eat out quite often and have never felt compelled to write a review. But after some seriously disappointing service last night, here I am. The staff at the door could care less about customer service as my party, and many many others with long-standing reservations quickly realized. Once seated and placed our orders our waitress never once checked to see if we needed anything else, perhaps some ketchup for a burger or another refill of our drinks? We would have gone for 3 or 4 rounds but I guess she didn't care about the size of her tip. Food was decent enough and the place has potential, but with service like that I won't return.

    Good food, but Noisy!

I ate here a few nights ago with 5 girlfriends the food was pretty good for the money, but be warned, this place is very noisy! The atmosphere is more like a club or a cruising scene, definitely fun, but if you want to have a conversation without shouting, this is not recommended! We were looking forward to having a night of talking and catching up, our throats were sore by the end of the night from shouting. If we were single girls out to meet guys, this was a great place, but not for a pleasant evening of conversation. It was a relief to leave. What's with the noise level of many of these restaurants? don't people like to talk to each other when they are out together?

    Solid down and dirty bistro

If I compare the food from the last two times I've eaten here to the last two times I've eaten at their much pricier sister restaurant Balthazar, this place wins hand down. Not even close. Chicken paillard was much more tender and juicy in a lighter sauce, great brunch, and have often had their daily specials and never been disappointed. If you’re ever there when they have the grilled Portobello sandwich, it’s fantastic. Friendly efficient staff, it can get a little crazy at peak times but overall an unpretentious bistro with solid food.

    Really great time..

The atmosphere was a cross between one of those greasy spoon indie rock diners and a French bistro, which was a really nice way to have a nice meal without the stuffiness. We got steak frites and the pork chops, and we loved both! Then we shared the flourless chocolate cake, which was very good, too. With excellent and considerate service.

    Must Get: Garlic Shrimp

The Garlic Shrimp app is really good if you like garlic because there is lots of it. Certainly not a light dish, but garlic, butter, shrimp baked in a crock is ambrosia in my book. Eat with bread.

    poor table manners

Wow! I've never had a hostess be so rude to me. I went there for brunch with a semi-large party and waited over an hour for a table. I politely asked the hostess when she thought one would become available. She answered with, " I told you when you got here it would be a while, and it's still going to be a while". Yikes! My friends and I paid for our lukewarm coffee and took off to have a very nice brunch down the street. I've had better experiences there with dinner, but brunch, never again.
